As a well-times follow-up to the thread earlier today on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , Andrew Collins posted a useful article today on how best to leverage your FSM and Haynes manual, along with advice on how to make sure everything fits back together when you’re done.

I have aftermarket workshop manuals from Haynes, Brooklands and Gregorys.
Factory service manuals are out of my league though I do have one for the Patrol and I did once have access to VW’s ErWin system for the Transporter. Either way they are often too massive to be practical.
One thing for sure though is that workshop manuals seem to be edited by the same glass half full with bullshit people that write real estate advertisements. Never, and in no other context, doe s the word ‘remove’ come with so many unstated implications.

As I complained earlier, my main gripe is the incredibly small/dark/unhelpful photos.
T hose have probably turned me away too soon to discover all the other unhelpful characteristics.
I have the FSM for my Jeep which I found online; I really hate to violate copyright like that, but sometimes you’ve just got to acknowledge that FSMs should not be so hard to acquire and the manufacturers made their own bed.

My Haynes isn’t too bad in that regard. And it’s a bit of an improvement on the Brooklands version...
Both images concern replacing the rear brake pads...though it could be worse...
The two paragraphs at the bottom are the brake overhaul ‘instructions’ for our MF65 tractor...
