Blocking the exit ramps of a major interstate in one of the country’s largest cities seems...dystopian? There are helicopters circling downtown, and cops everywhere. I passed an empty lot where the SD was staging. Looked to be wearing full body armor, everyone had an M4. Phoenix PD was arresting people standing in their own front yards last night. They are going to make this worse. All the downtown neighborhoods said the only group causing a disturbance were the cops.

Right - have a buddy that moved down there a couple years ago, a bit of a tinfoil hat guy, and  he just bugged out north to get out of Phoenix early yesterday . Lots of conservative voters down there - gotta support the law and order stuff...

It seems so long ago that AR-carrying constitution protectors were gathering at every state capitol to make sure that our tyrannical government doesn’t destroy the constitution by making us wear masks. Using the military to suppress protests, I guess they’re cool with that though.

Phoenix itself is pretty blue. We have nonpartisan mayoral elections, but generally always elect Democrats for mayors. Same goes for our second largest city, Tucson. Neither mayors were consulted by the governor about our curfew.

I have a spot with water I can go to up north if need be. I’m in central Phoenix, so not too worried. However, my SBR is out of the safe  and next to my bed.

Some access points to my area were blocked when the (shuttered via ‘rona) mall was being looted, too. But no abuses I’ve heard of in my suburb anyway, although I read of some in Seattle proper, and I think I5 was shut down there . I’ve also spotted many non-local trucks cruising the streets in my area , apparently out of towners coming in to look for a fight if anything flares up.

They are also causing problems in outlying areas:

Someone thinks all of this will make things great:

Mayors of our more rural cities have said they won’t enforce the curfew. A good number of our protestors here are armed, mostly with handguns, but I’ve seen a few rifles. We have constituional carry, so I assume there’s a good number of people carrying concealed weapons. You won’t see cops here pulling shit like they do in NYC.

Nah, just a mundane dystopia. Not the even a okay one with secret police and every person chipped; boring AF . It like they’re not even trying to suppress protestors.

My buddy  flew back to Seattle this morning. He was supposed to fly back yesterday, but a bunch of the flights were cancelled for some reason. Had he not got a flight this morning, I was going to drive him back, and would probably be somewhere in southern Oregon right now.

Everyone who isn’t currently drunk or high in Tempe is always asking themselves that question. As a youth I used to stand outside of Slices on Mill with a group of friends and pick fights with people. Good times.

My dad moved to Arizona from NJ a year or so before Inwas born. I’m sure he had similar thoughts back then. When the desert calls, you have to answer.

They don’t have to chip anyone because we all carry around tracking devices that we can’t stop looking at.

An 8pm curfew in Phoenix in June is a pretty effective way to suppress protests.

That’s a long long drive, you maybe didn’t miss much . That being said, if he lives downtown, he picked a good time to be away.

Although if poor national leadership incites people, there could be more issues in upcoming days.

And I was able to build it back when they allowed tax stamps to be issues to corporations. I have an 11.5” lightweight BCM upper on it now, but my stamp is for a 10.5” barrel, so I can go shorter if I want. I built the lower myself on a stripped Noveske N4 frame that I got for cheaps because it was “blemished”. Rocking an Iraq War discounted Knights Armament rail that I picked up for $40 from Camp Pendleton years ago. My Eotech has shit battery life, but I love it. My wife’s rifle has a 16” BCM with a SS match barrel and a full length free float rail and 10x adjustable scope. Sort of a “shorty” DMR.

Shit, well I hope you heal up. Slices is shit pizza. For good pizza in Tempe check out Venezia’s. One of my favorite restaurants in Tempe is Cornish Pasty. Hearty food, and if you can still drink beer a cool place to grab a pint . Sahara’s had amazing Middle Eastern food, but they closed. For cheap, but good Mexican fast food Los Favoritos is a classic. If you head over to Guadalupe, Del Yaqui is really good. Sometimes the grandma runs the register and she doesn’t speak English, so you’ll have to brush up on your Spanish a bit.

I helped him move there about ten years ago. We did Phoenix to Kennewick in one shot. Took about 22 hours through Nevada and Idaho in a late ‘80s Pathfinder. Drove to Seattle the next day to a friend’s apartment in the university district.

He’s in west Seattle, but looking to move since they closed the bridge down. Completely screwed up his commute.

Are the police like that because there is still a stay at home order because of the ‘Rona or just because the police lost their minds?

Arresting people just because they are outside on their own property is so stupid.

It is wild out there lately, my family has just made it a point to be in for the night well before 8 these days. My mother in law works at a walmart and they have changed her schedule because they are closing the store at 7 to make sure everyone is home by 8 right now.

I have my SBR loaded up with 77 grain open tip match NATO ammo. Fragments very well in soft tissue and less likely to penetrate walls. It was the stuff the military was using in the Mk18 back during the Iraq War. Think it cost me something like $2/rd when I bought it.

We never had a real stay at home order. Some kids destroyed and looted a high end mall on Saturday and the governor enacted a curfew over the whole state. The police are out to control the protestors. They arrested people in their yards for filming them arresting protestors after curfew. Our courts already determined the arrests were unlawful and made them release most everyone.

Well you can’t brutalize civilians if they can escape. At this point I think this is what’s going on:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_riot

Similarly, while undoubtedly there are genuine looters and instigators who want to wreck shit for various reasons, I would not be surprised if a significant fraction are undercover cops.

Yeah, it’s a 1/7 twist which as tight you can get on an AR. You wouldn’y want to use it at distance, but it’s perfect for close combat. I have a stockpile of the normal NATO rounds for general use. My wife’s rifle has a stainless steel match barrel with a 1/8 twist and an adjustable 10x scope and full length free floated rail. Much better suited for distance work.

Yeah. I’m roughly betweenish the national guard base, downtown and some hospitals, and I’ve noticed an uptick in helicopter traffic here that.....ain’t good. Neither of those helicopter origins and/or destinations are good.

Getting arrested in your own yard blows my mind, just like the folks who got shot at with some kind of paintballs? on their own front porch. Just absurd.

77 gr is heavier than I've seen before. Heaviest I ever saw listed was 69 gr, I think. For my Mini-14, I stick with 55gr .223, though it's chambered 5.56 NATO.

As far as I know, it’s the heaviest 5.56 round out there. Black Hills did develop an 80gr round during testing, but ended up settling on 77gr. The military designation for the round is Mk262. Here’s a good write up on its development.

I suppose that would be a somewhat epic drive/adventure, no traffic has anyway. And Kennewick is about as close as WA gets to AZ in terms of climate, winters aren’t bad compared to much of the rest of eastern WA, and it can be an oven in the summer. Also relatively affordable housing for the region, just maybe a slight dearth of family wage private sector employment. The U-district on the other hand, all the fun of a college town transplanted into the middle of Seattle. I’m too old for that.

West Seattle once had a rep for being what passes for affordable housing while still being relatively close to downtown (although it inflated a bit as hipsters moved in) . I guess that’s on hold.

He’s been in west Seattle for at least five years now. From what he was explaining, the closing of the bridge has negated many of the benefits of moving there. His parents used to live in Kennewick. They had a very cool house right where the Snake and Columbia rivers met. The climate seemed very similar to north central Arizona. It was a pretty epic drive. Nevada is boring as hell to drive through, but we saw some cool stuff.

At one time anyway, a house that was 800K in Seattle might be 400K in West Seattle, and the place also had a much more mellow vibe, and less of the city grit. The price delta has decreased a bit, I think, but it is still seen as an escape from the city. At least until your 20 minute drive to downtown becomes 90 minute s.  Maybe all the WFH will ease some pain - when a bridge fails and you live on a peninsula that sometimes might as well be an island, there’s only so much you can do.
