The 4 Series’ number plate truly cancels out any chance of the Tall Nostrils looking good. Gonna withhold judgment on the design until I see one with an offset tow hook mounted plate.

They all look like cheap knockoffs of not only each other, but as cheap Chinese knockoffs of an actual BMW. Weird.
Obviously looks are subjective , but man they’re all terrible to me - each in their own way no less. Yikes.

I’m certain a refresh is coming for the 8 to ruin it.

Ouch, my head hurts. Thanks BMW.

10 years ago if you’d asked me what my favorite brand was I’d have said “BMW 4eavah bro!”
But I’m much wiser now. I’d buy any new equivalent Genesis or Audi over a BMW today.

Why do manufacturers do that? They know most jurisdictions require a front plate, why not create a space in the design for the plate to go that looks appropriate with the rest of the lines of the front end?

Audi did a similar uglifying of their lineup in the past couple years too. Must be a German thing that we don’t understand.

My sister and BIL both drive BMWs, and they bought a new X2 as their son’s first car (which he wrecked on the way home from the dealership). After owning several BMWs in the past, my attitude these days is ‘any other brand, please’.

The 4 Series isn’t even the worst offender. Chevy’s *optional* front plate bracket for Camaros is a painful afterthought:
To add insult to injury, that front end doesn’t even have a tow eye. “Universal” offset plate brackets aren’t even compatible.

God, that’s bad. I have the generation before, where it bolts flat agains the black plastic grille under the bumper, which doesn’t look too bad.
I live in a rear plate only state, so just had to take off the bracket, drill out the holes, and plug them with black plastic caps. No painting needed, and you can barely tell it was ever there.

I read a joke that if BMW product planners from 1983 saw what the brand is doing now, they’d jump out the window.

Makes it look like a dodge cross hair, which is not currently used so maybe they can have it.

This is one of the major underrated benefits of classic car styling. They used to design cars with a clear and obvious place meant for the license plate that didn’t look weird. In fact, it kinda looks weird not to have a front license plate on a classic car. Why they stopped doing this, I don’t know.

Yeah probably

One day the front plate and bracket fell off of my E34. For those jurisdictions that didn’t require a front plate BMW kindly offered a clean blanking piece to fill in that gaping hole in the bumper and so I installed it, cleaning up the looks of the car immensely. For some reason the next owner of my car took that off and went back to a front plate despite the fact that it would probably have been a minor issue if he was caught without the plate.
T hen again, maybe he got pulled over too many times for not having it. He was such an asshole on the road that it wouldn’t surprise me if the cops just started picking nits when he inevitably got detained, writing him up for every violation they could find.

There was a photoshop going around of the new 4 Series with the 8 Series grilles that looked just about perfect.
Hard to be a fan of the brand these days.

I feel like the rear end isn’t that much better, it’s just so bland... identical to the 8er if you ask me. at least the old 4er and 6er were differentiable. I think Audi and BMW have lost it a bit with grille design, while merc has gotten its shit together so, I hope it’s reflected on sales.

Ugly cars with no manuals? Is this really BMW?
How the mighty have fallen.
