2001-2004 Acura RSX Type S factory wheels. I found a set of these priced pretty reasonably, complete  with a set of snow tires. These wheels look similar to the Mazda6 wheels from around the same time that I’ve always liked and wanted. A set of snows, whilst not absolutely required here in STL, would be a nice added bit of security and would save some wear on my all-seasons.

One of the wheels does need to be refinished, but that’s probably something I could handle myself. The rest look OK, probably on par with my existing wheels. I think these would be a nice aesthetic improvement without affecting ride quality or replacement tire price.

Someone near me had a previous-generation Mazda5 with RX8 wheels for sale, and if looked great, but I’d prefer to stick with 16s. With that in mind, these Acura wheels look like they might work well. The bolt pattern matches up and the offset seems quite close. Any reason I shouldn’t

Are the center caps the same size or would you just stick on some blanks? Or will you Acura branding?

I’d rather the spokes were straight instead of tilted but the design isn’t bad. Lots of curb rash on that wheel, but I don’t think that has to be a deal breaker.

I don’t know if they’re the same size. I’d prefer to stick with Mazda badging but figure that I can improvise somehow, or blank out the Acura logos.

A little work with a file and some wheel paint and it should be good.

I’m actually partial to the twist. I think the Mazda version may have a little more twist and a slightly different spoke design , but the Acura ones are decent, although perhaps a little more plain.

You can allegedly buy some blanks that will fit:

Thanks for that link. Perhaps I could get some Mazda logos printed up in body color, or maybe just find some chrome logos like the stockers. Of course, I would try the originals first just to see if they fit.

I like the turbine shape of the spokes. My Acura came with a fatter version and I swapped them out for my waffles.

I really don’t like them, the RX8 on another hand are looking way better.

An d have you checked if the spindle size (not sure it's the right term) is compatible because even in the bolt pattern and the offset are compatible it might not.

Thanks for that. I forgot to check that detail. Having been through it putting E39 wheels on an E34 you’d think I’d know better...

I don’t disagree that the 18" RX8 wheels look much better, but I’m old and like the comfort of my 16" wheels and tires as well as the low cost of good replacement tires ; I might go to 17" if the deal is right since Mazda did equip fancier versions of the 5 with 17s, but I refuse to go any larger.

I was mainly talking about the design, I also am partial to “mild” sized wheels, i have changed 16" 55 sidewall of both of my cars  to 17"s with 45 sidewall over the last 6 months and think that 18" would not be a better fit for them.

Ah the E39, the one BMW with a different hub size.

Really? I had assumed it was a permanent change going forward, but it sounds like this wasn’t the case. At least it was a larger bore and not smaller otherwise that would have been a serious mess.

Gee, thanks BMW...

From what I’ve read, it’s only the E39. I discovered this when I was looking into some style 32s for my 3; you can bolt the E38 ones on but not the E39. You need a hub adapter for that.

Been there, done that, got the hub-centric adapters to prove it...
