I got my staples out. Not healing as well as the docs would like because, in yet another surprise twist, I’m apparently allergic to even medical grade titanium.
There go all my dreams of becoming a badass cyborg.

Good they’re out.
We’ll just have to move onto plan B

wow, really? That’s going to suck if you ever need a hip or other joint replacement.

Are you allergic to gold? I worked with a professor who was developing techniques to plate gold onto titanium to avoid implant rejection. I don’t know how far along that got, but it was wild to look into.

Most joint replacement components are high cobalt steel. Now neck fusion plates are frequently titanium.

That’s really cool, Id never heard of that. As far as I know I’m not allergic to it, so maybe that would work for me.
I'm sure my insurance would love that, though. Can't use already astronomically expensive titanium components, now they have to be gold plated!

I fully support this. Heck, based on my abilitity to tolerate pain without painkillers, I might even have a shot at it.

Sadly I’m probably going to end up needing a right knee eventually.
Someone else mentioned gold plated titanium, which apparently has a lower rejection rate. Because regular titanium isn't going to be expensive enough.

My dad has a couple titanium pins in his back as well. Must have gotten my allergy from my mother.

I’m surprised I made it out of my teens and early 20's without having any metal bits installed...
