I discovered what I would call the neo -bluegrass singer Sierra Hull recently. Her latest album is titled 25 Trips, referring to her age and “25 trips around the sun.” As much as I like her music, I thought, “25? Are you kidding me?”

Americans will prove or disprove this in a week or two.

Ah, yes. The wisdom of youth.

I have a coworker who is turning 25. She often makes observations about people’s appearances, aging, even teases one coworker about “pushing 40.” When I pointed out she was in her “mid” 20s, I may as well have had told her that she was old and worthless.

“Early! EARLY twenties.”

“Those days are over. You’re a lot closer to 25 than you are to 21. Also, if you remember elementary school, 25 rounds up to 30"

“VRRRRRR!!!”

That put in cork in her.

But you usually have to die be a legend and I won't be around to enjoy the accolades, what with the being dead and whatnot

Yeah, she’s an extraordinary musician, but I generally don’t turn to 25-year-olds for wisdom.

Nature does generally seem to favor the less deadly strains of viruses, no reason to think that wouldn’t eventually happen to COVID-19. Hard for a virus to spread and reproduce if it kills off all its hosts.

I definitely remember how rash, impulsive and cocksure I was at 20. By 25 I had calmed down pretty thoroughly as I’d bought a house and been married for 6 years but I was definitely the exception among everyone else I knew.  10 years later I look back at some of the decisions I made back then and shake my head.

I had a conversation once with a similarly-aged colleague, and we both agreed that we would love to be 25 again, but only if we could have the wisdom of being 50. Honestly, I enjoy being in my 50s. The accrued experiences and wisdom are worth every minute of being closer to the end.

I’m generally happy being 35 and having the knowledge and experience to make a lot less stupid decisions than I used to. I’m a senior engineer at work and genuinely enjoy teaching others the expensive lessons I learned.

The part I don’t like is now I’ve hit the point biologically where it isn’t magic anymore and I need to work out, watch   what I eat and sleep more to not feel like total shit. I still wouldn’t go back to 20 though unless I could take everything I know (and my current saner hormone balance) with me.

Pretty crazy how NYC quickly transitioned from some sort of corpse filled wasteland to, get everyone out in the streets in a matter of weeks. Must have just dumped all the bodies in the East River.

Utah just saw a huge surge in positive cases, 331 new cases is the most we’ve had in a single day by nearly 2:1. Coincidentally 2 weeks after mothers day and things started to really lift. In a few more days we are going to see the memorial day numbers...they are also going to spike.  Community transmission is still very much alive.
