People were dying more often, yes. But after Senna’s death, Stewart was one of the leaders in making the sport safer.

52 drivers, and that doesn’t include track crew or spectators. From teh late 60s to early 80s my uncle went to every F1, can am, etc race at watkins glen, montreal, lime rock, and a few others. he said he counted seeing 12 die. Worst was Koinigg.
