There’s been a lot a of frustration in the American society. Some people are genuinely mad about the George Floyd episode. Some people are just thugs who are doing what they do best, have nothing to do with the idea of the protests, and are escalating the protests that should have remained peaceful to keep their legitimacy intact. And some are just mad. That’s it. Mad at the establishment. Things that have nothing to do with what happened to George Floyd got targeted. Authorities in world news or world fashion got targeted because people are mad. They’re mad because they don’t have many things
. They don’t have a job. They don’t have money. They don’t have health insurance. The corporate sector is out there to screw them at every step.
Let’s not forget that the income inequality in America only got deeper in America since the financial crisis from a decade ago.
There’s also A LOT of fear in the American society. Fear of getting sick, because that could lead to bankruptcy. Fear of debt. Fear of being left out.
*Don’t mind me too much. I’m just throwing 2 cents, on the bottom of the Sauza bottle I just emptied, here.

T hings are only starting to look a little bit better in Spain and I’m only working,1 four hours days, from home. I don’t have money trouble or anything but I don’t like the idea of splurging on more expensive labels when I find the taste of this one pretty good.

Don’t forget the part where oppressed people who have been discriminated against for generations are fed up with that whole situation.

And some people are stirring s**t and not even showing up to the rallies. That’s the bad part.

Or anyone else with any shred of common deceny is also fed up. Protestors who have turned violent are not the only problem. Sure, they are wrong. But murdering innocent black people in the street is also wrong. Both can be wrong and we can ALL be mad about it. That said, I don't blame the oppressed for not staying peaceful. The shit they have to put up with is unreal and unacceptable.

If this story came from, say, the Wall Street Journal, I could share it.

Chief Craig has said the majority of people they’ve arrested for causing mayhem aren’t even from Detroit.
This country deserves to go down the shitter.

Several decades of socio-economic devolution and simmering racist bullshit coming back up again.
There’s some smaller scale looting and related disturbances etc going on in my little suburb right now - I can guaran tee very few to none are from this city.

In an era of what we think is what it is, that statement might carry water.

Or Fake News... Take your pick.
I have been thinking about the fight Twitter picked with the president, which I applaud. I am waiting for someone to ask me why Twitter doesn’t flag tweets from the Iranian regime. Reply is going to be, “America First !”

I wish this was fake news today.
I’d believe news from Iran over some of what is released by this regime.
Definitely on Team Twitter, here.

Most dismaying is what a force Facebook and Twitter are in our country. Why do those even matter? Twitter has Trump by the base of his snarkleys.

People are addicted . Social media is a distraction from the less satisfying aspects of modern life.
I don’t even have a twitter account, and I use fb for little more than to view family photos and buy/sell things. Not in love with the problems they’ve caused, but I’ll be pleased with them if they help undo this mess.

I check in from time to time because I have extended family on there, and one or two people who are crazy as loons and I wonder that they’re saying. It seems to me like the really wacko folks hang out there.

Facebook and Twitter are the public forum, the new town square.
We may not like what power they have, but that’s the truth.

And it’s global in scope. But in the town square, at least, you faced the person you were talking to.

Check the fb page for local news stations, and read the comments on any story dealing with crime, economic issues, etc. You’ll find every negative stereotype about certain older generations out and loud on display.

Ooh, now there’s an idea for a productive way to spend my morning!
I was telling BoredAlways on another thread that my 18-year-old daughter expressed to me this morning that she felt strongly that she should be out protesting. I told her I thought it was a bad idea because there was a real risk that she could take a bullet.

Yeah, it’s a risky thing, depending on how much self-control is had by your local authorities, and how much fuel to the fire is added by outside groups.
We had a small protest in my white bread ‘n rice suburb, which was followed a round of looting in my neighborhood yesterday evening (apparently out of towners arrived by the carload), but I don’t think there were any abuse of power incidents. Still, I wouldn’t want to be out in it.
I think you might have tried to send me a message in the pic thread I started a while back - I get the notifications, but I can’t read the message.

Not sure. Sometimes I like to sail away when it seems like a s**tstorm might brew and talk with people on a side channel. There are people here I enjoy engaging with, and people who lurk and troll and whom I’d rather avoid.

Cigarlounge is good for that. It seems when a thread hits a certain length, the gods of kinja can make it difficult to manage.
Remember, there are good people on both sides :)

Either that or you should be grey always.

I think if one isn’t out of the grey per the site admins, they are grey until someone removes them. It’s a kinja thing, I think maybe nobody at Cigarlounge ever updates the list.
