The 1958 Power Wagon with Willock swivel frame was the last truly good truck ever made.

Change my mind.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s an interesting solution to the problem of articulation before independent suspension was a thing, although one has to wonder how strong that bearing is.

Kinja'd!!!

Only like 100 real ones were ever made but there’s apparently still companies that will make you a new swivel frame to retrofit to your Power Wagon.

Wouldn’t want to go off a jump in one, but it’s definitely a cool and unusual truck.

Imagine that on a Jeep FC. Now that would be the unbeatable truck.

Right. I wouldn’t load up the bed with lumber or anything  but for someone in the 50's who needed to get a modest payload across rough terrain this was probably the best possible solution.

Actually from everything I have heard from people in the Power Wagon community these were not good. There is a reason it went away. My truck is based on a WM300, it just had a different cab.

“ THE big problem we had with them was that; while on rough but solid ground they’d work great— in mud or swampy conditions, a corner of the vehicle would often sink like a stone if it found a particularly soft spot.”

To be fair most vehicles can't do mud or swampy conditions

My dad grew up on a ranch back then, he agreed these could sink so far your bed would end up sideways and stuck. If you knew it was a dry area it would be fine.

“ Wouldn’t want to go off a jump in one“

To be fair, that applies to like 85 percent of the vehicles I like.

Leafs are great for weight bearing, but terrible for articulation. Was likely the best scenario using leafs you’d ever get. a long-arm 4-link will get you some pretty amazing articulation.
