Of all things, a Buick SUV might be the best design to come out of GM in years.
It’s certainly nicer than the old one.

Yep much better. Put a different grill on it and I could see it as a Mazda. The old one looks like it was designed to fit in on rental lots.

I also thought “Mazda” at first glance.

Still with an ‘L’ VIN?
D efinitely more modern, maybe a little Mazda. I like how it traded A pillar DLO fail for C pillar DLO fail.

I have a soft spot to Envisions. I sold them for a year at a GMC/Buick dealership. They’re WAAAAAY over priced new, but can be a pretty good value used.

Wait a minute...GM sold Opel a while back. How are they doing another generation of Opel-based products?

That is a huge improvement!
Buick's design language is the only one really hitting it at GM right now. Cadillac's and GMC's are lagging. Chevy's is an abomination.

Still made in China, still not interested. Nice design though.

It has weird “ nostrils” below the headlights, but aside from that I find it quite handsome.

That is not bad at all, now if they could only make a GNX.

Build them somewhere other than China and I’ll be in. (Yeah, I know we’re more likely to get MORE vehicles from Chinese factories in the future, not fewer.) Same deal if Acura ever decides to bring the CDX over here.

I agree China is sketchy, especially with their handling of COVID stuff, but why is a car being built there such a problem for people? Like users of this site would buy a Buick crossover anyways.

For me it’s mainly the continued offshoring of US labor I don’t like , although I bought a car made in Mexico which is probably worse in that respect (thanks NAFTA).

No such thing as Opel-based. Opel was a brand under GM. Anything developed by Opel was property of GM. This would have been designed when Opel was still under GM, and Opel and Buick shared the same design language. In a few more years when PSA based Opels hit the market we’ll see what agreement GM and PSA made to determine if Buick or Opel keeps this design language.

Envision is specific to USA and China.

Opel was still separate from the US GM brands in the same way that Ford Europe is separate from Ford NA...which is to say, same owner (and reasonable overlap) , but separate entity. Buick was effectively turned into an Opel-based (i.e Euro GM) brand, instead of the Chevy-based (i.e US GM) brand it was before.
That said, yeah, this SUV
was probably done before the split happened. I just thought the current
Regal/Insignia was supposed to be the last shared product, so I was surprised to see this one.

This vehicle isn’t “ shared” with Opel. We won’t see an Opel version. The Envision has always been a US/China model so I doubt Opel had any hand in its development . As things have been going with globalization, GM decided that Opel and Buick would share the same styling globally. Opel was just another one of GMs global design and engineering centers, but GM in the US was calling all the shots.
Except for the Regal (which is still specific to China with its conventional trunk), all the other Buick sedans in China have nothing to do with Opel but share the design language.

Cue “That’s a Buick!?” because I definitely thought it was a Japanese or Korean brand at first glance.
I really feel like Buicks are just what the Chevys should look like
