THEY'RE GOOD CARS, BRONT

An uber driver had one of those and told me she loved it; I don’t think she was kidding. I think people like them, despite my assumption that people begrudgingly drove them simply because it beats walking.

I drove one of these for three years, then gave it to the missus. Base 2.4 Tigershark, FWD, no options besides all weather mats. Besides having to replace the thermostat housing literally 50 miles outside the 36,000 warranty threshold , it is a very ok car. Averages 28-30MPG around town; 35 highway. There is nothing special about it at all. But it also isn’t a quality nightmare. Fit and finish is great, ride is smooth and quiet.

While the 4 cyl variants are boring to drive, they are quite reliable, fuel efficient, and far more comfortable than a Corolla or a Civic.
In V6 form, they a F-ing riot, easily breaking into the 13s with simple bolt ons.

Not to mention that Uconnect is simply the best infotainment system on the market

I do my best to not judge people based on the car they choose to modify, buy who in their right mind modifies a 200?

Agree to disagree. I think for sheer simplicity, GM has them beat. Fo r customization and integration, iDrive is actually really good. So is is VAG’s MMI system.

People who realize it doesn’t take a $35+k performance car to go fast?
![]() 05/29/2020 at 13:21 |

There are ma ny WAY better platforms for cheap speed. Even ones that are still FWD and 4 door. Like I said, good on them if they want to, it just seems an odd way to go about it.

The 200 was a perfectly decent car, certainly the best intermediate Chrysler made in about 40 years or so. Just came at a bad time, market moving away from sedans, no real chance of establishing a new nameplate under those circumstances. Also, "decent" would have been enough, if Chrysler had been building decent midsize cars consistently all along, but they really needed something dramatically compelling and different to lure customers back, and the 200 wasn't that.

The exact opposite argument was made in the 90's when it was “all these guys in their modded Integras and Civics”. So which is it? Are we supposed to do something different, or go the same route as everyone else? Or just buy and leave everything stock and content ourselves that our boring grocery-getter is only ever going to be an appliance because we can’t afford something better?
Fuck, tho, the Pentastar V6
is just shy of 300hp in stock form, and built to handle more. That sounds like a good start to me.

Wow a reliable Chrysler, will wonders never cease?

Owned a 200S 4cyl for a year until my ex-wife totaled it. Really nice car t hat was quiet and c omfortable that got a lot of hate it didn’t deserve. I really wanted the V6 but she wanted fuel economy so we went with the 2.4. I still miss it and would own another but only in V6 guise.

It’s all good man, I’m not trying to hate, Ch ryslers just do nothing for me!

LOL! I know, man, and I get it. You’re coming from a point of personal preference. I’ve just heard the argument (from others, and cast way more broadly) so many times. I dunno, i applaud the guys taking the hard path, or at least the unpopular one.

Drove one as a rental before. Don’t remember hating it. So it must have been OK . It’s just a pretty beige car, especially in rental spec, but I remember seeing a few nicer ones tha t were loaded with options.
In the top trim level with the V6 I bet it would be a reliable, comfortable, and cheap to maintain commuter car if you’re not a car enthusiast or if you have a fun car for the weekends in y our garage as well.

It runs low 14s stock. That’s touching on WRX quarter times, smokes the Civic SI, and smokes the GTI, while being a nicer place to spend time than the WRX/Civic and being cheaper to buy than any of them.
Quite frankly, it’s a damn
good bang for your buck performance bargain if you’re looking for a fun sedan.

The person who owns a 200. That’s a silly question ;).

Colleague of mine had 2 of these (1st was totaled, bought a 2nd for a lot less than the insurance payout). My first reaction was “I’d never recommend a Sebring mk2 ” but after thinking about it I couldn’t fault her. They’re probably one of the best value ~300hp cars out there, nicely equipped and quite attractive especially the tail. She had the fastest car in the dept easily and it nearly netted her a street racing charge at one point! (Don’t speed past Belleville, ON)

Damn, that’s a shit ton of miles. Insane commute or what?

Absolute mad lad, of the three people I’ve known who had them, all had issues while it still had very low miles.
Although apart from reliability I can’t really find anything major to complain about them, although tbh I don’t really know what’s expected for modern cars these days, since me and most people I know own cars over 10 years old.
