I didn’t know “Glamping” was a thing until my wife (from Chicago’s north shore suburbs, who has never slept outside a minute of her life) told me about it.
I think I could sell this to her. Maybe.

I need at least one more...this one for my wife and I, and the other one for the 4 kids.

To me glamping is being able to drive to the campsite rather than everything needing to be on your back.

Hahaha, now that’s perfect!!!

Right? I’ve never seen a Mercedes Benz van or wagon I don’t love.

Oh you tow your car to the track, that’s cute!

Counterpoint: no one NEEDS to go glamping.

Looks neat, but it only has a 1.8l 4 cyl diesel... with no turbos.
This thing will be dreadfully slow.

North Shore girl, eh? I’m grew up in Deerfield, which claims to be part of the North Shore , despite having zero shore.
That’s a very ritzy camper, but I’m going to guess it’s too small for her.

You absolutely can drive this to the camp site!

This was my version of glamping at Palmer Motorsports Park.

My unofficial over/under for what’s considered ‘glamping’.
If you can stand up in your tent, if you don’t sleep on the ground (cot/air mattress), and if you can see your car from your tent .......you’re glamping.
* Also known as t he minimal accouterments I prefer when going camping these days. I don’t always get what I want.

I think it's hilarious the times I've gone camping with my miata next to all of the giant RV campers. Usually for an autocross but I've taken the miata camping just because too. At least then I can't really fit more than I can in a backpack anyways.

I’ve been in exactly the same situation. Parked my little Honda Fit and put up our tent (it’s a large 2 room tent... big enough that I could park my Fit in it) and being surrounded by huge RVs and trucks.
So many people buy a huge RV and then buy a vehicle that can tow it... because it’s what they “need”.
My approach to camping is to buy gear that
fits
what I already have.

My sister owned a house in Berkeley for a few years. I liked the proximity to Portillos!

I know Deerfield well. I’m a third generation graduate from Trinity in Bannockburn. We lived in Highwood.

That’s like 1/3 of what I fit. It was a track weekend so I had all my tools (small toolset, jack, oil, cleaning supplies, gauges, tapes, impact, inflator, lights) , some food and water, a work laptop... didn't even have to pack anything in the passenger seat.
