Nothing quite like the first road test after a long and/or complicated maintenance cycle. The excitement, the fear, the... well ok mostly fear for me. Constant situational awareness too.
What was that noise?
Did the brakes always feel like that?
Is that temperature too high?
Did the car always sit like this?
Oh god what is that smell? Is that the car or the world?
Is this different? I can’t tell if this is different?
No really what is that smell!?
I’m happy to say the smell was not the Jag (or me) and everything seemed to go fine. No sudden weirdness. No (new) fault codes. Hell the radio didn’t even cut out which is... something.
The performance seems... different? The supercharger certainly gets louder quicker, which would make sense, and I’ve never had a good butt feel for how fast this car is so... that seems fine.
I did discover one bad thing:
My new key chain tickles my knee while I drive! Laying it on my knee was the only way to get it to stop.
I’m actually kinda bummed about that.
After meandering until the road ran out and then meandering some more I ended up lost and used the nav to get myself home.
Soon afterwards I had a moment of alarm when out of the corner of my eye I saw something flash on the dash.
Turns out this thing does turn by turn in the dash, which is neato if mostly useless.
All in all my test drive took me a little over an hour and through parts of the area I’d never been... several of which I don’t think I’ll be returning to as they were quite... rough. But I’m happy to report the Jag did well and I can put a pin in this particular maintenance cycle.
On to the next car!

I read the entire post in detail and came away with: my god, those are some really straight roads.

Is there a little nook or cranny along the dash you could tuck that long lanyard of the keychain up into when driving so it doesn’t tickle your leg?
A lame trick that could work and wouldn’t be too much of a nuisance could be a binder clip where you clip the long end of the lanyard to that open cubby door on the right that your OBDII gauge is plugged into whenever you get into the car...? Would be a fairly quick and easy motion every time you get in or get out and a swift tug in an emergency would pull the lanyard tail out of it if needed. As they’re black, it wouldn’t stick out too much, visibly, either to ruin the look of the interior?
I use a binder clip on a climate vent to help route my dashcam cable...they can be handy (best pic I have of it, sorry)

I have the same experience... every time i take my A3 !
Today it was starting to have some “misfire” at idle and i believe a new “unpleasant” sound (maybe an exhaust leak, maybe a faint squeak somewhere on the accessory belt) then with the high temperature outside the clutch is starting to feel terrible again once the car is hot (feeling like a dry frayed bike brake and sounding like an old spring, not sure if its the bearing or the receiver) and obviously the delicate smell of burnt oil to add to the stressful experience.

The straight roads around me aren't even straight. . . and then the road doesn't line up with itself through literally any intersection. There is a grid system but it was designed before anyone cared enough to plan where to shove the roads.

Your wire just runs straight through your view but you cared enough to secure it in that position?
Autocorrected wire to wife and I laughed quite hard.

Medium good.Better the more intoxicated you are. Which is to say their claim to fame is t hat they are/were open until 4AM and last call is at 2AM. They also used to serve alcohol whenever but they got shut down for that.

Yes!
A.
The wire is quite thin so it doesn’t obstruct vision at all:
B.
I sometimes take the camera out and use it in mom’s car when I have to use her car, so I don’t want to do a ‘clean install’ of the camera wire by tucking it through the headliner edge and behind the dash and all that as it would be a PITA to get it all out again when I switch cars unless I installed hidden cable in her car AND mine...and I don’t drive her car often enough to bother with that, so it just makes sense to have the one cable and move it from my car to hers and back.
This way the clip holds it against the dash so it’s not moving around while I’m driving and not bumping into whoever my passenger is. Also, it makes it super easy to remove and reinstall the camera. Unplug from 12v socket, unclip binder clip, un-suction the suction mount, pull smaller camera end of camera cable through binder clip ‘handles’ to free it. :)
EDIT: Forgot I had this video clip showing it in detail:

I have the same keychain problem. My solution? Cargo pants. That way it tickles the material and not your leg, and eventually you just don’t feel it anymore.

I found that video funny in a very strange way. It was like a silent movie. I see the reason now, but if I were to drive different cars very rarely I would just leave the dashcam and have a clean install. I really should get a dashcam. . .
