400 lbs of concrete behind the back axle really changes the handling dynamics

My 99 Golf would have been a great match. I didn’t grab a shot but I borrowed this from my father in law and it fit in the back without any issue.

Co
uld you feel the AWD putting more power back there? (assuming it’s an automatic)

You are now p repared to blind all oncoming traffic (not that you should , of course).
Too many people (contractors) around here tow trailers at night and don’t have any compensation for the load, so they just drive around blinding everyone with their headlights.

I’m pretty sure this is how I broke my Impreza. To many heavy loads.

This was all transported and unloaded during the daylight hours.

I could not tell if it was putting more power to the back. I didn’t even know it was capable of doing that.

First part was a joke, second part was a problem. I was sure you weren’t part of the problem or i wouldn’t have posted the joke !

400 lbs isn’t really all the much. Loading up my wife, kids and dog has to be close to that if not more.

I had no t even considered that it would ha ve been an issue at night but it certainly would have.

Most automatic Subarus have an electronic AWD system that varies the amount of power split to the wheels. It usually runs I think 80/20 F/R split (varies by model) but can go up to 50/50 depending on conditions
The manuals have a completely differnet non-electonic system that’s always 50/50

Yes, 4 bikes, two kids, gear for an entire day of bike racing. The rear wheel almost fell off my car. Also did many camping trips all over the west in my impreza fully loaded with kids, gear and a thule box on top.

It’s too much when the rear squats like that. Occupant weight is dispersed around the cabin between the wheels. There’s a reason why the tongue weight capacity on Subaru’s is like 200 pounds.

Just be careful if you care about that car. I did the same thing with an old Outback many years ago. I had Baja Turbo springs on it so the squat wasn’t as pronounced but it was still a bad idea. Subaru’s of that era are prone to subframe rot/failure.

I’m never careful but I’m not lugging 400 lbs of concrete daily or anything.

I’ve put 20 50lb bags of concrete in my s-10. Softest ride it ever had :P
