When I was a child I thought the Lamborghini Countach needed fender flares and a wing to be cool.
I couldn’t see the artistic shape of the actual car. Just taking the flares off ruined it for me.
But the older I get, the more I like the original design.
Gandini knew what he was doing.
The flares and wing only took away from the initial shape of it.
Even with a naked one armed guy holding the door open it looks good. And frankly I prefer the wheels on the original to the five holed wheels of the Quattrovalvole.
I must be getting old

35 here. Growing up, the Countach and the Diablo ruled my gear-headed childhood.
As a young’n, I didn’t care for the original Countach at all. It looked too wimpy compared to the winged, flared QV.
Now, as a semi-old, I truly appreciate the original. However, no Countach tops the QV. It's just perfect. It's still a show-stopper.

Some people need to a dulterate their coffee, bourbon, steaks. Some know they were created perfect in the first place!

If I win the lottery there’ll be a QV in the garage for sure, but that original prototype is becoming sexy as hell in my old age. Btw I'm only 41. Lol

I agree. But I also put bourbon in my coffee and drizzle it on my steaks.
Gotta remember to get more bourbon tomorrow

The part that I don't like about the original is the rear wheel arch. It makes it look like the wheels were an afterthought rather than a core part of the design. Otherwise, I'm cool with it.

It has grown on me. I totally dig it now. But I agreed with you for 30 years.

I couldn’t agree more. The Miura may be a more beautiful design but the original Countach combines edgy with organic like no other. A design masterpiece.

I have always loved the first one, it must be green for me.

I think it needs the NACA ducts, and arguably the shoulder airscoops, to break up the over-large space behind the door. Otherwise, you’re right. For me, the original production version, the LP400, is the aesthetically perfect Countach (in yellow, of course).
The one I’d buy is still a QV though - there’s a lot to be said for hookers and blow.

I feel you, a s a kid I definitely loved the crazy later ones. Not sure if that was only because I had an uncle with a 25th Anniversary and had never seen the original design, but that contributed for sure!
It took a while, but now I definitely appreciate the original design more than what it evolved into. Still, I think the back end with no wing is missing something compared to the later winged version. It j ust droops weirdly to me. I’m not saying the late model wing is the right design to tack on, but something is missing for sure ! Maybe when I get a bit older I’ll truly appreciate the complete original design.

Welcome to old.
The original Countach is the best Countach.

Agreed. They both have their place, but the original gets better the more you look at it. The wings and spoilers version probably makes a bigger initial splash.
Sam e can be said for many Italian tractors I think. I think the early Diablo’s are now starting to look pretty gorgeous. Plus, RWD and lighter. Need bigger bank account.

I really dig the Diablos. Better looking exterior on the older ones, but the interiors were sooo Chrysler.

I wouldn’t know a Chrysler interior if one fell on me, but I’ll take your word for it.
Now watch this and tell me you don’t want one :)

Early Diablo,
Late Diablo,
I did enjoy Harry's Diablo video, but much prefer the later interiors
