Nice car.

Not a fan of the flag.

It’s the Georgia state flag, which is very close to one of the official Confederate flags that isn’t the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia.

Yep, Georgia decided to get rid of the Battle Flag, and then in a big fuck you to everyone who wanted to change it decided to adopt the stars and bars in its place.

At this rate you’ll be better off with the flag of Georgia the country,

Kinja'd!!!

I mean, how many Americans are likely to know there is a country called Georgia.

Lol. Only kidding.

Nothing wrong with the Georgia State flag.

People take exception to the Union Flag or the St. George Cross, they are my flags, not theirs, so it doesn’t matter.

On here is the first time I’ve ever seen criticism of the current state flag. The old flag is controversial because it had the Confederate flag everyone knows of on it, but I still see it repped by a lot of people on cars and in yards without criticism. I guess you could think of the old Georgia flag like a Trump sticker; people may stare and be like “oh, I don’t like that,” but is anyone gonna do anything about it or to it? Doubt it.

Going after a flag is a peculiarly personal thing. It shouldn’t be but also so few people know the flag’s origins that it gets even more personal.

I'm aware of the country but precious few of my peers are. I think Georgia would care more than Georgia if we stole their flag.

This sort of attitude makes it harder to defend things  that actually should be preserved, like stone mountain or other war monuments.

Why would they do anything about it? The type of of people that are offended by things with racist overtones are usually fairly kind folks that find the idea of destruction of property or a physical confrontation quite awful.

My stance has always been you’re free to display whatever you want on your property(such as display   the classic stars and bars or a swast ika   ) and I’m free to treat you how I want (for example like a racist asshole)   because of it. Freedom of speech does not shield anyone from the consequences of their speech, it simply prevents the government from punishing a person for speaking their mind although there are limits even to that protection.

**disclaimer** I am not commenting on your presentation of the current Georgia state flag as your front license plate - I am not informed enough to make a decision on that I am commenting on the display of the other iconography you noted abov e

On another note entirely - that is a beautiful blue on that sportwagen.  My MK6 is black and it’s my least favorite thing about it (love almost everything else).

I understand. Like I said, I’ve never heard any complaints about the current state flag until this website.

And thank you! It’s Silk Blue Metallic, the blue that’s on a lot of Volkswagens.

Georgia is one of the places in the world I’d like to be able to visit when bullets and politics aren’t making it an inclusive destination.

Some U.S. channel was showing the Olympic opening ceremony a few years back a nd someone commented on the website, ‘Georg ia is a state, not a country’.

Mind you, the presenter introduced Austria as, ‘and now we have Austria, a former British penal colony’!. Lol.

To me a flag is a flag, it represents a country or a given point in a country’s history.

The swastika is an ancient symbol that was appropriated by an evil person and unfortunately the swastika while still used today in the middle/far east is a symbol of hate now.

But to do away with the confederate flag and remove the statues is like trying to erase history, a history unfortunately America still hasn’t learned from.

The war was long ago, why all of a sudden is it an issue to have anything associated with it removed? Because everyone wants to be offended and show they are offended to show others they are civilised and better than them. Urghhhh.

It’s only funny if you don’t live there. That seems a peculiar thing to say in an international event.

In practice I don’t see it being a problem since no one knows enough history to know of its origins. There are plenty of things that might be offensive if people knew how they came about ( ie ice cream song ) but sometimes things can surpass their history. For instance “ Indian” has an offensive origin but indigenous people tend to prefer it over Native American because it doesn’t lump them in with Central and South America. I can’t see the flag ever being an issue in practice but it is worth acknowledging the issues that exist with it and it just doesn’t set the greatest precedent.

Even more peculiar when they should of said it about Australia and not Austria.

What I find odd is how everyone remembers Australia as a former British penal colony but not why, which was because America had just got independence from the British and we could no longer send our convicts to America any more.
