So is the 3-series flat for its first year of a new gen (kinda bad) or the second year of the new gen (pretty good)? Once you add in the GT (which sold surprisingly well) and the 4 GC, neither of which have a MB or Tesla version, BMW comes out on top. Really not as bad as people have made it sound any way you slice it.

The ranking of the 3 Japanese brands is interesting this go round. The Q50/Skyline outselling the TLX globally makes more sense - it’s simply sold in more markets. In the US, the TLX slightly outsold the Q50 (26k to 25k). The fact that both outsold the IS, however, is very surprising. The IS is ancient, sure, but its interior is a mile above the TLX.

I’m sure DS seemed a good idea at the time. I used to see the DS3 frequently but the rest of them don’t appear on the road at all.
I’ve knowingly
seen precisely one DS7 in my life.

The DS5 is ancient though, I thought it had been discontinued a long time ago. Wikipedia tells me it was discontinued in 2018, so it selling very poorly in 2019 is to be expected.
I saw them frequently in the Netherlands, but now that I live in Germany I sadly
only see German(ic) cars.
I have never heard of the DS 5LS, must be a China special.

35K deranged souls bought a 3er GT? Astounding.
I wonder if any creative accounting was used for the Tesla - pulling forward sales from 2023 etc.

They were ugly as sin but somehow it was still the closest you could get to a 6 cylinder 3-series wagon in the US. From what I’ve heard it’s the kind of car that owners love. My other thought is that if BMW had already made that many of them, they had to go somewhere, no?

Maybe BMW made a pile of them and them blew them out on sweetheart leases or something.
It’s funny how slight proportion changes can make a world of difference. 4er GC is fine looking, change it up just a bit to a GT, and well...a wagon with half the practicality and even less looks. It might appeal to those who still don’t like wagons, but also don’t want a derpy CUV.
