I am a man afflicted by a large amount of mechanical sympathy and I also tend to a nthropomorphize my cars to a certain extent.
With COVID-19 uncertainty and my ever changing financial priorities, it has become clear that the Kia may be my winter DD for at least the next year. I plan on diverting some $ to the truck, Fiesta and Sportwagen this summer, so that is going to eat up my car budget for some time.
The Kia has been sitting undriven since February (I run it from time to time and it has fuel saver in it) and it was looking a little unloved and made me sad . So I did a fairly quick clean of the engine bay for the first time ever.
Soon I will probably put a permit on it, drive it around for a day and give it a wash/wax before rolling it back in.
Mothers cleaner with Chemical Guys Silk shine.
Also, I did all three engine bays of the newer cars and the Kia by far had the most room under there and all the plastics seem to be like...some sort of recycled cardboard composite? It’s weird.

It’s nice to see a lovely clean engine bay.
It’s not going to be seen by anyone but you and a mechanic but it’s nice to know it’s done and looking good.
I'm told many mechanics appreciate it as they can get on with servicing the car rather than getting all gunked up or having to clean it down first.

Yeah, I always clean the whole car, including under the hood, prior to service. I know for sure that mechanics have changed the way they treat my vehicle when they see the care I put in.

Good to know. Before the fintail goes in for its yearly service/checkup/repair, I always give the engine a clean, especially underneath and around the dipstick, as on a nearly 60 year old unrestored car, some fluids “escape” just a little. I want to be nice to a shop that still takes in such cars .

Jeep aspirations are still there, but, maybe we’ll revisit it at a later date. The truck needs it’s transmission leak looked at as well as brakes/suspension and a tune up. Nothing major, but enough that I can drive it safely this summer.
The Golf needs wife damage fixed and the ST may need tires for the fall.

I wish I could clean my engine bay....it’s really messy with all the undercoating stuff in there....but necessary with all the salt on the roads in the winter here...
Old pic, but you get the idea...I guess I could clean the engine cover and airbox and such, but the yellow stuff on the strut tops is that waxy undercoating stuff...
