This popped up in my news Google feed tonight and while I’d been ignoring it all weekend when I see my state mentioned by national news outlets I have to look.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I expected nothing different after seeing the crowds out moving around town on Friday mid-day (haven’t left the house since then) but I hoped we’d be better.
Fucking fuck me - this is likely to get much worse now on a state that had been pretty lucky in round 1 of this thing.

this is what happens when you believe reality is whatever you want it to be.

I grew up in mid mo. Know the lake well. You get very far out of any decent sized town and all hope is lost.

The good news is that there aren’t too many cases there yet. The bad news is that while growth was slowing for a bit, it appears to be back on thew rise:

Missouri resident here:
Social distancing isn’t a thing, anywhere. Not stores, restaurants, parks, nothing. At my job, I’m required to wear a mask and we’ve had multiple people berate us for trying to be safe and healthy. We also have our dining area closed indefinitely and that has made many people extremely upset. Overall, it’s really awful but there are enough nice and caring people that I haven’t completely lost faith in humanity.

Yeah it’s bad here. I live in Jefferson County and had someone yell at me while doing a touchle ss curbside pickup at Dicks in South County.
I’m sorry people are shitty to you while doing your job, that's awful.

Yep, the numbers were definitely artificially low as we had very little testing for the longest time but this behavior is going to cause a large spike.
Missouri also didn’t ever expand Medicaid so we have a very high percentage of uninsured citizens and almost half of the state smokes so it's a pretty unhealthy place to start with.

Very true

Shit, I saw Ozarks and my mind went to Arkansas...
Missouri isn’t as bad:
That’s not great, but assuming testing is reasonable, it does look like the rate of new cases is slowing.

There is almost no slowing in that graph, just the tiniest deviation from a straight line.

Also the Ozarks cover the southern 2/3 of Missouri, it's beautiful.

Tiniest deviation is better than most states. It’s not an argument that hanging out with hundreds of people in close proximity is a good idea.

I mean, it’s the food industry so it’s pretty normal. It started out that we’re either a hero and a saint for being out here serving during quarantine or we’re the scum of the earth, but now we’re just either normal people or the scum of the earth. Tips have gone WAY down (although we’re not a restaurant that normally has tipping), but you could easily make $10-15 extra a day. Now you’re lucky to make a buck or 2. I almost wish we’d get hit with it again to show them how stupid it is to open back up, but with the hundreds of people I interact with a day, I’m glad that I’ve managed to stay healthy so far. Greene County started off really well, issuing a stay at home well before the rest of the state, but really dropped the ball since.
I’m sorry to hear that things are as bad in retail. I know people are stressed out and freaked out right now, but it also doesn’t give them an excuse to be their punching bags.

they’ve all been given the “FREEDOM” script via Facebook and Twitter bots, and they’re executing it to the letter.
