Update: the 1st 2 images are the rear wheel well, same sort of deposits there as the front, I’m quite certain its just old and new grease mixing that is causing the old grease to ooze out all liquidy. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

There’s what seems to be oil of some kind on various suspension components on the Vette. It isn’t coming from the coilovers, they are clean. Neither is it brake fluid since all the brakes lines are dry as well.

Could it be grease from the ball joint itself?

It looks like oil from above.

The way I see it, you've got self-lubricating ball joints

Grease can separate and sort of turn to an oily substance of two incompatible types are mixed together, but it looks like it’s coming from above the whole joint and dripping onto the joint, it sure looks like motor oil from the photos, but shouldn’t be anything over that spot to drip the oil.  Maybe try pumping in some more fresh grease and see what comes out of the boot.  Looks like you used the red grease for a top off?  Maybe it’s not reacting well to what was in the joint.  Try to pump more in and clean the joint very well to see what shows up in the next week or so.

Is the engines oil cap actually on

Oil on top of the yellow cap indicates the oil is dripping from above.

That is really really weird. It is too far away to be related to the engine. Do you see any oil staining in the wheel well or the engine bay on that side?

If its from above it could be oil traveling down a hose, wire loom, etc. I’d be looking up with a light and a clean cloth.

Wipe it off, check first thing in the morning for fresh accumulation?

Could be a freak thing

Right...expect there is no oil above the cap anywhere, the wheel fender is above that region and its all dry

Yeah, this is the leading contestant right now. I’ve pumped some grease into the ball joint, lets see what happens next week.

Too far away and there is no ‘path’ of oil leading from the valve cover to the wheel well.

That certainly looks like engine oil. Brake fluid and coil-over oil would likely be MUCH cleaner, without carbon deposits from co mbustion.

Old grease can separate and loose viscosity. Especially in the heat. Pump some new grease in there and see how it goes.

There isn’t enough in the surrounding area to suggest it sprayed from t he side. If it were leaking from the zerk fitting, it wouldn’t be on top of th e cap covering the zerk. Ergo, it must have dripped from somewhere above. Perhaps there’s a pinhole in the fender liner and the oil dripped through it.
