Sucks they can’t still run it and just film it. Not the same, I know, but it’s something. They’re playing fucking soccer matches in Germany.

I mean, Germany has their shit together more than the US. It isn’t apples to apples.

They are not really social distancing in Nunavut and so far , no cases but you can’t then compare that to New York.

I usually don’t watch a ton of the racing, as without somewhere to sit, leave a cooler ect its usually too hot to stay for any length. Was hoping to enter my car this year so I could bring chairs and a cooler.

Pennsylvania has double the COVID prevalence of Germany, still a fraction of a percent of the population, but double nonetheless.

True, but it’s a lot easier to social distance race car drivers than it is soccer players.

New York City didn’t really have it s shit together, but the majority of US did. My state has the same per capita infection rate as Germany. The metro area I live in has almost twice the population of Berlin.

There’s not really any city in the world like NYC. Not sure if you’ve been there or not, but it’s like a whole nation in and of itself.

That sucks. Would have been a great mental health boost for people.

Sure, when you’re in the car alone its fine. But tech inspection, race officials, rescue and track staff can’t social distance.

From what I’ve read, western Pennsylvania has much lower rates than e astern Pennsylvania.

That is very true, which is why Pittsburgh and its suburbs are no longer under a stay-home order, and Philadelphia and its suburbs are. Your local area probably is closer to Germany’s levels, but the governor is being very cautious and probably also wants to discourage people from out of the area traveling into it.

In the case of Delaware, our governor delayed the reopening process until June 1st, so as not to encourage out of state tourists from coming down to the beaches over Memorial Day. They’ll come anyway, I have no idea why, though. With bars and restaurants closed and the water cold , is walking around on boards and sitting in a sand pit really that big of an attraction on its own?

I don’t think it would be very difficult to stay at least six feet away from people while doing those things. Make sure to wear a mask, and most are probably already wearing gloves. I’ll be teaching STEM classes come Fall doing it. If you can get an entire school to do it every day, a racetrack shouldn’t be too hard for just single events.

Biggest risk would be getting someone out of a car if they wrecked, but you can train people how to do it safely. We’re all going to have to be trained on how to best protect each other if a kid gets hurt.

In terms of a healthcare system, every developed nation has their shit together more than the US.

In Germany, they have ample testing, a social safety net for people impacted, and much less of a TEM syndrome culture.

I’m not bothered by this. I usually do a trackday @ PittRace the week or two after this event, and the past few years the place wa s still trashed. Never fails that some 90 year old shitbox will expunge its oil pan all over the goddam place.

You’d think that the boomers that drive these cars would be all neat and tidy and keep things clean, but it’s the opposite. They’re pigs that can’t clean up after themselves .
