Hayden Christensen was an AMAZING casting choice for Anikan. He absolutely nailed the dark, brooding, image, perfectly portraying a s truggling young man falling to darkness . Perfection. I’m talking Game of Thrones level casting. And t he makeup/wardrobe team ? Killed it.
If not for some of the worst dialouge in modern film, e pisode III would be a masterpiece. There’s a great storyline hidden within the muck that was episodes I-III, A nd someone should do it justice...
Hotter take? We should get R-rated Star Wars remakes in 10 years, but w ith good writers this time.

Star Trek: Best actors best writing.

The Expanse: Fucking hell where did this amazing piece of space sci-fy come from. Star forks can suck it.

I’ve heard this take before...I don’t buy it. he did okay with the material he had but he didn’t elevate the role IMO. FElt like I was always looking at an actor.

I liked Episode III. Certainly better than any of the current trilogy in my mind (I haven’t seen the newest one, but I think the reviews give me good justification to doubt it) .

Joking aside, this is a solid take. Though The Mouse will never make any R-rated Star Wars content. I would almost bet other people’s money Lucas had that written into the sale contract as he was adamant about his universe being accessible for kids.

I mean, SWSH did have an ethical dilemma, sort of, but it was kind of nonsensical. “I’m awakening the source of all this energy because we might need it in 1000 years!”

Sorry, but Hayden Christe nsen was by far and away the worst actor in a series of very bad films. Worse even than Natalie Portman, who at least has some acting chops. Just go to IMDB and see what roles he’s landed since SW.

Oh, he totally dropped off the face of the planet after that. But I put much more of the blame on writing than acting in this particular case. I just rewatched all the star wars movies and honestly... None of them are really *good*. Definitely a ton of nostalgia though!

I didn’t love the role, but you really weren’t supposed to. The thing I hated most was him getting CG’d into the end credits of episode VI but that’s George’s fault. I agree with you about Episode III, all in all it was decent especially Sam Jackson!
I watched the despecialized version of the original trilogy a few weeks ago and found it quite calming.

We watched all of the SW movies in order prior to the release of Ep IX. But even given the horrible dialog, Christensen couldn’t even deliver a line without slurring over the words. I can only believe he was hired solely for his looks and not for his acting ability.
But aside from the acting, you have to give a TON of the blame to George Lucas. He basically had one good idea (Star Wars) and milked it into an empire built on that one idea. The best Star Wars movies are the ones that he didn’t direct (ESB, ROTJ). I firmly believe that the best writers should let somebody else direct their films. Aaron Copland was a fantastic composer, but his music was best played with Leonard Bernstein conducted it.
And don’t get me started on the LOTR movies. I have lost count of the number of times that I’ve read those books. The movies looked fantastic, and I was happy that they hired some of the famous illustrators when putting it together. That said, I’m not crazy about the score, and I am not at all a fan of the changes to the stories. And The Hobbit is by far the most egregious of the lot. Those films should have been titled something else with the subtitle “Inspired by The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien .”

Still haven’t seen the third prequel, I’ve heard it’s better but the second was so bad I couldn’t bring myself to endure any more.
In speaking with a grandmaster
level star wars n
erd about this he figured the originals are as good as they are because nobody respected George Lucas enough to read his shitty dialogue verbatim (the snippets
you see in the early
screen tests are truly cringeworthy).

George Lucas is very good at ideas and creating a universe. He is not very good at assembling those ideas into a cohesive story. The best thing Disney could do with the Star Wars property is bring George in to generate ideas for the writing team to use to make coherent movies out of.
That and don’t switch directors and writing teams for each movie in a trilogy. The JJ-Rian-JJ switches in the new trilogy are writing whiplash.

Theres almost no reason for movie 1. 2 and 3 are what happens when writers spend all day “you know what would be cool” and forget to write the dialogue and plot, assuming the special effects will make up for it.
vaders story arc could have been great. as kevin Smith said “the most evil villian in space is from a brooding teenager....yeah thats about right” good guy -> descent into madness -> space overlord -> redemp tion
instead lucas went unhindered

Well, that’s why there are so many different flavors of ice cream! So we can all can find something we like. I just find the main themes (Hobbits, Aragorn, Rohan) a bit trite, and when they return, it seems they are always with the same orchestration. Leitmotifs are important, and John Williams made a career out of melodies that represent different aspects of the film, but his work seems much more subtle, more imagin ative . I feel like the LOTR themes kind of bash you over the head. But hey, that’s just my opinion.

I think he did one of the worst acting jobs in a big movie like that in recent history, and the lack of chemistry between him and Padme was off the charts.
