I have the ducati listed for sale, transcript from him. How can we screw with him?

Scammer:

Hello,
Do you have ducati for sale? I saw the ad on Craigslist and the bike looks good, had you any problems with it recently?

Me:

I do still have it, I have one guy coming tomorrow or Thursday to look at it, but he said he wouldn’t have funds until the end of the month. It’s in great shape, the only issue that wasn’t mentioned in the ad was it had a dead battery this weekend. Just finished putting a new on in and it’s good to go. Check back with me Thursday evening and I will let you know if he put a deposit down on it

Scammer:

I apologize for late reply, it’s so crazy right now with everything going on. Have to admit, your bike looks very good. Do you some papers for it beside title, like vin report or something?

Me:

Just wanted to let you know, the guy today liked the bike, but is waiting until the end of the month to be paid before he makes the purchase. He said he wouldn’t be offended if I still show it to other interested. I’m available after 5 on the weekdays and I’m usually pretty flexible on the weekends

Scammer:

I would like to check actual ducati report. However I don’t plan to run it myself, but thank you for offering VIN. Would you mind getting one instead? In case we don’t make a deal you can still use it for other buyers while I’d have no use for it. My mechanic recommended to me !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for such reports. He says it is cheaper than carfax but more accurate when it comes to bikes so I would suggest using that service. I am planning to come next week to check your bike, assuming that report comes clean, please let me know.

Me:

Sorry, no. Far to many scams involving crap vin check services. If you’re truely interested, feel free to come check the bike out and then we can talk about history reports

Scammer:

If you think this is a scam or a sales pitch, I will stop contacting you. However, if you reconsider, please get back to me with report I asked for - I’m very interested in the bike, but I need trusted report before deciding what to do next. I don’t want to spend money, because if it’s bad, then I surely won’t buy that bike. I hope you understand my point, good luck and good bye.

Me (Just wasting his time at this point):

James, if you are interested in the bike, I would highly suggest you come check out the bike in person, you can even have a mechanic come look over every bolt. If you decide you like it, I will pull any history check you feel is worthwhile. The ball is in your court. However, I will not buy any report if you cannot prove to me that you are a genuine buyer, period.

Sc ammer:

Please accept my apologies for sounding rude, but I need to see that report to make sure everything is in order. Feel free to blackout VIN or other personal data in case that’s what worries you. Six months ago I purchased a bike with clean carfax. Very soon it turned out to be a lemon and other report from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! showed numerous recalls. I don’t want to make same mistake again and that’s the only reason why I’m asking for specific report now. As you know from my previous mails, I am planning to come next week from SD to check the bike if that report comes clean. Please keep me posted.

I found this in a Vin dungeon. Not sure if it will help.

I would say the next logical step is to doctor up a fake report from vinsdungeon and send it to him

I’m thinking of sending a PDF entitled “vin report” and all it contains is a very large man with very little (read: none) clothing

Maybe we take all of our OppoFlop power and redirect it as DDOS attacks on the vinsdungeon site?

James, I’m so glad you talked me into running that check at vinsdungeon.com! I found out my bike had problems I didn’t even  know about. Apparently it was in a crash last week , a coup le days after that arms deal I worked out by the docks. I should never have loaned it to one of those Brazilians. He said he just went to Wendy’s with it. I guess that would explain the extra zip ties, huh? And then there is that bit of hair and scalp on the exhaust. I thought I’d just hit a squirrel, but it looks like according to vinsdungeon that it was involved in a double rape and murder. I mean, it can be so hard to keep track in this neighborhood when you work a later shift, you know what I mean? But anyway, are you still interested in the bike? When can you swing by? Also, cash only now. That other guy who liked it just disappeared, and I kinda need to leave town soon. Call me!

Find the worst Carfax report you can, chop Vindungeon into the header and send it.

Just remember to tell everyone to spoof their IP addresses!!!

(then again, do scammer sites actually file complaints when they get scammed/hacked?)

Find a normal vin report, add in the vin dungeon stuff, but then make every number some for of 69420/8008s See if he notices. Although I like Chariot’s ideas of describing what the VIN report discloses.

I had one of these scammers ask for photos of a car, and I sent him a photo of a Saturn ion submerged in a puddle, and another different colour ion with the front end smushed. Did not deter him

uh, I think he’s looking for something a little more valuable than the 2 minutes of my life it took to message him in order to waste his time he would otherwise be scamming someone else

You should tell him that the report came back clean from vindungeon and you will give the report to him in person all the while not actually doing anything.

My biggest issue in life is with people wasting my fucking time. You’ve created an entire thread dedicated to this guy, and are investing more time in trying to somehow scam him.  He’s taken up a lot more than two minutes of your life.

There are (or at least were, like 10 years ago) apps that will literally send 1,000,000s of emails, texts, phone calls whatever to someone every day. I used to get scammers back by using those back in the pre-smartphone days when each notification would make a pop-up that had to be manually cleared before the person could use their phone.
