Picking up an 02 3.8L in a couple weeks.
The plan is to install it in my 94 to finally get my performance back where it should be.
The swap itself should be pretty straight forward, but the wiring and fuel system have me slightly concerned.
I know the new engine can be rewired to run on the 90s ECM, just have to get some more info on it.
Hopefully when I find the wiring info I will also find out how to run the returnless fuel rail on a return system.
Either way, the extra 65hp/65ft-lbs will easily be worth the hassle.

slap on a supercharger instead
:D

Eh, realistically the 3.3 can only handle 5-6lbs of boost reliably, so it’d still only be around 190
hp/220ft-lbs.
This engine is 215hp/245ft-lbs......

Iirc that last time you talked about this, you said you'll stick with the 3.3? What changed or am I remembering something wrong?

That is a big percent gain in hp. This should get interesting.

That should take about 30 minutes to do? :P

I know this is super cheap, but at what point is it easier to just buy a Terminator X? It’ll have a higher output with that management, too, and it’ll be easier to modify in the future.

ALL THE POWER!!!
Also crazy to hear that that 3.8 puts out more horse power than my 85 Dodge Diplomat highway patrol car was rated at when new, 5.2 V8 rated at 175HP 250FT/lbs. once rebuilt, made 200HP and 300FT/lbs on the dyno with a stock rebuild

More hp, less torque.
In reality, the lack of torque of my 3.3 is what’s driving me nuts. 180ft-lbs compared to the 213ft-lbs my original 3.8 had. 33ft-lb loss is VERY noticeable in normal use.

Finding a good 3.8L is what changed.
At the time, there was nothing worth buying in the area. Now, I’m getting her uncle’s 120k van for free.

I owned a standard length jelly bean Voyager. Actually it was the Plymouth variant... It was a great vehicle sophisticated handled well comfortable but it really could have benefited from the extra 65 horsepower.

Honestly, I was perfectly happy with my old 3.8, that made 162hp/213ft-lbs.
This engine makes about 150-160/180-190ft-lbs. That mild difference in torque is obscenely noticeable in this light chassis.
Bumping up to 215hp/245ft-lbs, combined with my shorter gear ratios ( thanks transfer gear swap ), should be a damn rocket.

Running the trans off standalone engine management is so far impossible, so factory wiring/computers is the only way to play.

I’m sure your extra 600-1000lbs is helping you a lot ;)
