My first big boy tool box. It became an odds and ends storage thing years ago after the bigger adult tool chest arrived. But this deserves a clean up, grease up, and a useful continuance. I should have treated it better.

It will receive the spare, old, duplicate tools and I’ll add in s ome rudimentary r eplacement budget pieces to make a good travel box for any road trip drive or for vehicle prone to break down away from home. A lot. Like my old Volvo started doing long ago.

I’ m realizing I already have a pretty good set of Craftsman “am erican-forged” box/crescents to put in it. I’ll source a full set of sockets in shallow and deep with extensions in sae and metric-it i s almost necessary now. I never know what ill find loose. Plus other useful bits. Fuses for the car, etc.

For those oppos who do have a travel box, a re there any must haves you recommend?

I have a similar craftsman box stuffed up on a shelf in the garage. When my son is ready for a toolbox, I’ll see if he wants it.

A bit of bicycle bearing grease makes it real smooth. It’s a great first bo x

I always carry a quality multimeter and sidecutters. They’re the most valuable tools sometimes. Flathead screwdrivers if you’re driving something with a carb that needs adjustment and a set of picks.

Plus a charged trouble light of some kind, be it a head lamp or a good snap on worklight, anything is better than nothing.

I have that same craftsman tool box on top of another larger rolling box. The main thing I hate about it is that the lid clips get in the way of the top drawer, when they’re in down position. They need to be in the half cocked position, to avoid getting in the way.... stupid design. Also, the lid acts as the lock for the drawers, which can be nice for travel but no good for home/bench duty.

I have that same box. I’m not sure if I stole it or rescued it from the trash. I was taking a walk in my neighborhood and it was sitting on the curb on trash day. I will say that sometimes people put things next to the trash can if they think it might be wanted by someone, but sometimes the truck from a charity comes through. Anyway, I got it and am glad I did. I have a steel Craftsman tool box, but a model without drawers that I inherited from my father, and I have a 3rd Craftsman steel box I bought at a yard sale that came with some miscellaneous tools . I have plastic boxes too, but its not the same.

Not really. I have all of my bike tools/fluids in one of those craftsman plastic suitcase sort of things, I actually have a picture of that mess. I want do shadow foam to organize everything but most likely won’t for quite a while.

I am in search of a decent semi mobile toolbox like that one you have. I rent and tend to switch places every couple years so it’s not worth buying a huge tool c hest and hoping there is room at the next abode

A good travel box is clutch. Make sure you have a decent pair of Channellocks, vice grips, needle noses, and a decent wire stripper/crimper . Some mechanic’s wire and zip ties are also good to have with you.

I have one of these bad boys and some vice grips which should cover any weird things that come up on the road. Of course a bunch of zip ties and duck tape.

I have the exact same box, it was a part of a 3 tiered set. I got the 2 smallest tiers , but not the rolling chest they once sat upon. Mine is beat to hell but its got an Oppo decal:

I wish I had a pic handy of post clean-up, I cleared all the junk out of it.
