In the trial of 45 volunteers, conducted by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, eight volunteers who got two doses of the vaccine produced protective antibodies roughly on par with people who recovered from a natural infection of the virus that causes the COVID-19 illness, the U.S. biotechnology company said in a news release.

Potentially great news! I wonder what it means that 8 out of 45 subjects developed a certain level of antibodies.
Maybe the other 37 got different doses or placebos? Or??

I’m guessing placebos. Or the other 37 had fewer antibodies?

I like how they think the share price of the company deserves equal billing in the headline.
this country deserves to go down the shitter.

Not sure I agree that we deserve to go that way, but we certainly seem determined to.

here’s a take on it that goes into more detail about the vaccine itself.

There was a recent story out of Michigan speaking of findings of levels of coronavirus in the wastewater that would suggest that many more people have had the virus than have been confirmed. This would lower the fatality rate and suggest that perhaps we have moved closer to herd immunity -- or whatever -- than we might otherwise have thought. Still, I don’t think a vaccine can be readily available until the end of the year soonest. And even though some have mutated my doing so into a political statement, I will continue to wear a mask.

I just edited to include two more scientific articles about this phase I trial and the upcoming phase II trial.

See the link below for a better explanation
. The 8 people that received two doses resulted in antibody
levels similar to people who recovered from the virus;
a
ll 45 participants generated antibodies. No one knows
the antibody
level
that is
needed to create an immunity yet
. Very promising none the less.

I updated the post with some more scientific articles, and JimZ also posted a very good scientific article.

Ok thanks- that makes sense. I was guessing that, but it seemed to be curiously omitted from the original article.

Hopefully so, though it’s still uncertain.
I’m wearing a mask, I’m in regular contact with my 80+ year old in-laws, and will continue to do so. Anyone who thinks that is a political statement can die in a fire.

Why would they when they could talk about who is going to make money off of it instead?

Everything I’ve read and heard says that the mask does a better job of keeping the cooties in than it does of keeping them out, so you choosing to wear yours around your octogenarian in- laws is a decision that I endorse.

Oh, Moderna, not Modena. My bad.
