I wanted to go do a serious bike ride today so I set out decently early and went for an adventure. This trail had some incredibly technical parts on the climb but wasn’t overly steep nor overgrown at least.
And the views at the top were pretty awesome making it well worth the journey. As I continued my ride down the hill, the ocean views expanded and the cool sea breeze helped get through the heat that was creeping up midday. Downhill was still a little technical and there were more uphill parts along the way as well. But definitely a good use of my skill level and gear.
Beautiful day today so I will enjoy some relaxation at home on the deck in the shade and eat some food to recover. I started with a protein shake and some homemade guac . Hoping to get started on a nice chili soon.

That is living. Despite living in the burbs of Chicago, I know your area reasonably well because reasons. So pretty up on top, and plenty of spots to relax down low.
Enjoy the fresh guac and chili!

Well done. Mostly singletrack or more open/old fire road? I’ve been looking at routes in the hills between SLO and SB counties for bikepacking ideas someday.

The lower/flatter parts are all open fire road and the later part of the downhill opens back up into similar open/smooth roadway. But once I got onto the proper uphill climb, it was all rough, rutted, rocky single-track. Most of it spent in first gear just climbing away and getting tossed off the saddle every so often. But it was manageable and just required some effort to make it to the top. Downhill started out challenging too but was certainly not as technical as the uphill. Still, very much an arm workout just to stay stable and keep the brakes from locking up in some spots. I don't like to go super fast on an unfamiliar downhill anyways due to uphill riders, surprise ruts, and washouts. So I had to use plenty of brake and only open up on the fire road portion near the end.

Yeah at least the one plus down low too is that parking is closed everywhere so people are actually staying away finally. It's kinda nice to have this all to myself. Saw a few people biking in the park today but I'm fine with sharing a little bit with like minded people. People showing up to tourist can go wait it out at home.

Sweet view. I’m probably going to go out after dinner, when the temps go down a touch.

This brings back memories of the spring I spent in Redlands working and mountain biking.

We aren’t allowed on trails. Early in the lockdown the east bay idiots invaded Marin and the next day they banned trails, beaches and parks. Yet the east bay parks are all still open! I don’t want to go to their shithole, I wish they could have stopped all that.

Did a paved/path ride here today. Hoping to get back on the mountain bike later this year though.
