So I’ve been doing just like, a shitload of reading lately. So much, in fact, that I had to buy an e-ink reader because I was getting eye strain from using my tablet. S ince many of us have more free time now I figured I’d share some books with y’all. Let’s face it, you haven’t been exercising as much as you should so at least your brain can get a workout.

Fist up- Soonish by Kelly and Zach Weinersmith. This is a fantastic piece of literature that discusses some emergent technologies that could drastically change humanity. The authors have done proper research and explain things simply and eloquently for the layman, with a good blend of intelligent and funny writing. Zach is the creator of SMBC (one of the longest running webcomics) and he lends his pen to create humorous but relevant illustrations throughout the book.

Next is Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits by David Wong. Wong is a long-time Cracked contributor (from back in the days when the site was considered good) turned author and maaaan is he good. This is a story of unchecked hubris, technological terrorism, and smelly cats. Some of the humor can be juvenile but it’s backed up by smart writing and a wry examination of where society is headed. If you like this I also recommend the John Dies at the End trilogy, by the same author.

Your Inner Fish - Neil Shubin. A bit drier than previous entries, but fascinating nonetheless. An evolutionary biologist looks back through the tree of life and pinpoints where various elements of our human bodies originated from, and shares with us tales of his time in the field. I have a new appreciation for my wrist bones now.

Order of Tales - Evan Dahm

A graphic fantasy epic from the man behind Rice Boy . It tells a tale of destiny and the power of stories themselves. Can be read for free as an online serial !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but a paid PDF is also available.

Any of the Tintin books . They’re good and fun. And car nerdery abounds, because the author/artist was so commit ted to accuracy that nearly every car, truck, motorcycle, airplane, etc, depicted in the comic is real.

E-paper readers are so much better than tablets for serious reading

Soonish sounds interesting, I’ll have to give it a look.

I enjoyed Futuristic Violence - sort of a mix of early Stephenson and late Gibson with a bit of Scalzi on top. I’m currently reading the Murderbot diaries - #5 just came out and reading it mad e me r ealise I needed to go back and revisit   the first 4.
