I’ ve spent a good bit of time in 2018-19 GX’s and the new 2020's and I cannot believe that Lexus can sell something so outdated for $60k . I know its amazingly reliable, and oddly enough everyone who buys one new basically has already had one. But a ll the 2020 adds is the s te ering wheel out of the RX, some color combos , and the adaptive cruise and other Lexus+ safety stuff. Still has a ~10 year old media system and 6 speed automatic.

Its underpowered; 300hp out of a huge 4.7 V8? And the torque doesn’t do it favors either. It needs about 100 more of each to feel safe on the highway. The suspension is also bumpy and jarring, both in the air suspension models and regular KDDS models. I seriously do not like driving these on the highway, ESPECIALLY if there is wind. Its just all over the lane.

At this price point, an RX350 is better in every single way. Its just uglier and won’t go off road. But * no one* off roads these. Eh I just can’t with a good conscience say “Wow what an amazing truck for $60k!” when the competition has stepped up its game ten-fold.

Thanks for the insight.

It is just something about it that is special to me. Yeah the info-tainment is dated, but overall it is a good place to be for me. Sad its leaving tomorrow.

Nice video! I like the infortaient because it doesn’t have the mouse/trackpad of many Lexuses. I think it looks a little odd with the angle of the screen but that’s not a huge deal. I love the switches and look of the interior.

I would buy this over any bmw x-whatever. All other manufacturers are making disposable cars. This toyota is worth your hard earned cash while the German equivalents are as good as lighting your money on fire.

I have driven the recent X3 M, X5 M etc. They are pretty nice sporty SUVs, but if I am going SUV I want offroad/overland, not can handle a track.

Looks like typical Lexus. Outdated, but supremely built interiors with HORRIBLE infotainment.

Yea but this is the 150 series Toyota Landcruiser prado designed to last 26 years and 600,000mi that the United Nations and NATO uses. Plus there is a tariff imposed on all foreign built trucks and suvs like the landcruiser 4 runner and lx570. Which is why Toyota has to build the sequoia tundra and tacoma in america. The reason t he v8 only makes 300hp, is because it’s under st ressed for it’s application and has no forced induction to worry about. This is the same 6 speed and v8 that two Toyota tundras put over 1 million miles in the oil rig and pipeline industry. Toyotas ur series v8s are severely overbuilt for their applications. Throw in a real ladder frame to tow your project/race cars, transmission and oil coolers and real off road capability and you see why people love these. This is the KDSS v8 full time all wheel drive 4 runner we can’t get in America anymore. Throw in lexus service and luxury features and it can’t be beat. The real bargain in these trucks 10 yeats old with only 100,000mi are around $20,000 amd have plenty of life left in them. Compare a used 4x4 v6 4runner sr5 to one of these and they have way more features and are cheaper because nobody wants to be seen in the “old lexus truck”. I’m actually looking at 2010-2012s now for my spec miata racer because i have dogs and its hard to carry people cargo and dogs in my tundra even though it’s larger. 3 people in the back leaves no room for my dogs so i want an enclosed cargo area for them to ride in when others go with me to the track. None of the german suvs can tow and go offraod reliably for years and the American suvs although very nice still come no where near close to quality durability and reliability as any vehicle from Toyota’s famous Tahara plant in Japan.

I agree that they are definitely great vehicles. It’s just the value for the money in the long term is so much better with a Toyota product. You don’t see as many wiring harness shorts and CAN module failures in Lexus/ Toyota vehicles.

Every one of your points is spot on, and I know these are an amazing used bargain. But thats just my point, a 2012 GX is every bit what a 2020 is and is a fraction of the cost. I would appreciate thing thing a lot more if it wasnt trying to be a luxury grocery getter, and was just sold as what it is; utilitarian reliability. And its not a fancied up 4r unner, the drivetrain and frame and everything is different. Its also not a landcruiser, the drivetrain and frame and everything are also different. Its inbetween I guess. Its just ridiculous to put a $60k price tag on this outdated beast and park it next to an ES350.

Wife has a 2016. Has all the off-road goodies, doesn’t have the ride height changer. Most importantly, though, the 2016's steering wheel is SO MUCH BETTER than that weird-looking blob of a directional switch.

She loves it, btw.
