Recently, an Oppo posted a question about what road is your happy place. I don’t really have one but I did think about the old Concord Covered Bridge, so I drove over there. Yes, I finally bucked up and bought a battery for the Cruze. Turns out the old one wasn’t even the proper size.

I did happen to spot some cool cars, so, if you want actual car content on a car forum, go check out my earlier post.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Well, anyways, this post contains a video of me driving around and through the old Concord Covered Bridge in Smyrna Georgia and photos from my subsequent wanderings on foot.

I think I prefer the approach from Covered Bridge Road over the narrow and traffic filled main road that uses the bridge. People are always crashing their trucks into it so there are lots of safety mechanisms, including those metal poles and dangling chains at the head of the road.

I parked at one of the entrances to the Silver Comet Trail and walked about a mile of it. Nothing much, but I did take some good photos.

Kinja'd!!!

This is the one lane bridge before the Concord Covered Bridge, as seen from below. I’m always impressed at how much effort was poured into making this walking and biking path so straight and level.

Kinja'd!!!

I took one of the side trails down to see if I could get a good view of the creek that runs alongside the trail and under the covered bridge. Turns out I would find more than I expected.

Kinja'd!!!

First thing I noticed were the ruins of an old water powered mill supported by this massive metal superstructure. Seems way overbuilt but it was a cool spot.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Some fool hung a rope from the top bar. I have no idea how this happens but the rope looked pretty new.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I much prefer these smaller side trails to the large asphalt ones.

Kinja'd!!!

And then I found my way back to this monumental pedestrian bridge over the gully.

One thing I like to do is to try to capture the essence of a place through a series of details rather than one large frame photo. Here’s my best shot.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I think that about brings us to the end of my day’s celebratory ramblings (I did just finish high school yesterday after all). I’d love to hear your thoughts.

For additional socially distanced celebration, I’m going to head back to Old Car City USA early tomorrow morning, so be prepared for a new round of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! s. I think I might try to branch out into video but I would need to figure out how to use a proper editor.

“ I did just finish high school yesterday after all”

Whaa?? Wow, I thought you were much older! I’ll actually be finishing high school in a few days.  Guess that means we’re around the same age... wild.

Haha I was actually about the oldest student at my school, but someone has to be. Congratulations to you too, my friend! Out of the frying pan of high school and into the fire of college (in my case, quite a notoriously difficult field and school too).

Wait a minute, my profile picture has been my face this entire time and I look way younger than I do in that image. Hmmm I wonder how many people noticed that.

Holy crap, that’s your face? The image was so small, I thought it was an antique globe or something... But now I see the face. I cannot not see the face. The face will watch me forever and always... always... always...

Architecture, because free time and sleep are for chumps. I have chosen a very difficult path but I have the enthusiasm and smarts to get through it, hopefully, when I start early this late  summer term.

Nice. I was going to do engineering, but then I realized digital multimedia would probably be a better fit for me. The classes I would be taking for engineering looked intense and stressful, whereas digital multimedia looks fun, interesting, and exciting. And loads of job opportunities as well. Good luck!

Expect a lot of 20 or 21 year old seniors to be in future classes after this year.

I also had no idea you were in HS.

That curious eager expression desperately seeking an escape from the cold dark orb it calls a prison will forever haunt your nightmares. I just like how that picture just has a vignette of me floating free in space despite nothing being altered in the image.

Congratulations. I take it you have already been accepted to a college based on your remarks about digital multimedia design. There are lots of creative opportunities in that field for sure. What kind of jobs use that degree?

I take that as a compliment. If you never noticed that my profile picture was a picture of me, I can see how you might think I’m older.

I'm not sure about 21 year olds but note people than usual will probably be retaking grades, bringing the oldest up to about 20.

Public school standards aren’t on the rise. Age of those passing the GED is.

Doubt anyone was doing forensic magnification of your thumbnail sized profile pic.  Nor would they have tried to guess your age.

Yes, I guess it was too abstract for that after all.

Sad but true about the deterioration of academic standards and integrity.

Enjoy your college years. Here’s a little tip for your general ability to enjoy life.

The worst day dealing with a car is better than even the mildest ( Oppo included) political statement encountered .

Haha I wish this weren't so true. I try to stay away from partisan politics here, though I occasionally do debate the direction of a party with others here. When did politics get so personal?

It involves things like design, marketing, storytelling... There’s a huge range of different jobs you can get with a digital multimedia degree,  w hich is part of the appeal for me. I like having a lot of options so I’m not comm itt ing myself to specializing in just one thing.

That’s good. Few people know exactly what job  they want to aim for going into college and even fewer know what area of their chosen field they want to work in. It's good to have options, and that degree in particular seems to have diverse applications.

Congratulations! What does your school plan to do for graduation? My daughter’s school is having a graduation ceremony, but only parents can attend and we will walk with her through campus and pick up her diploma from a table while waving at faculty from across the room.

They’ve told us that there will be some sort of graduation, but other than that, I have no idea. I think it might be done on zoom or something.

My daughter’s school is having parents and graduate walk through the campus and pick up the diploma off a table. They are keeping families separated all the way from the parking lot, through the “ceremony” and back to the parking lot. While we should be in and out in 20 minutes, the faculty and staff have to be there 9 hours. I’m hoping they don’t have to listen to pomp and circumstance on repeat for the entire time.

Thank you.  My school is still planning on an in person graduation but I’m not sure that’s feasible at this point, so something like that will likely take place.

Thank you. The world will never be the same because we won’t have a world again that doesn’t have the virus, but eventually things will return to “normal,” no matter how long things take.
