As with all things Italian, this took way longer than expected. A similar project on the Ninja took like an hour, this took almost 4 hours, because I stripped the head of a bolt (stupid me), and because the tail light screws were highly inaccessible (Italians). But I stayed calm, and Toby was surprised at the lack of swearing.

I agonized over clear vs smoked lens, but I think the clear looks good with the white. And sequential signals are the best. Tomorrow, I ride almost 150 miles to my mom’s house on the coast. I wi explore some fun roads and beautiful spaces. Many photos will be taken. Toby will run on the beach and chase his ball until he collapses. Many photos will be taken.

Don't say I didn't warn you that Ducati and Toby will be showing up in photodumps. There's worse things to look at.

Do you plan to remove the passenger pegs?

I really hate those stock light indicator/plate holder protrusions . I assume there is some law that leads to their existence, but am glad the manufacturers at least make them easily removable (for the most part).

Happly belated birthday, and nice wheels.

That looks significantly better. Is this fully legal or grey area? I can’t imagine why the OEMs  wouldn’t use a similar setup if it met 100% of all the rules.

Agreed. Isn’t it a “covering the tire” thing?

I’ll be in the minority here because, although they aren’t pretty, they do prevent skunk stripes up your back. In many places that isn’t a problem, but in places like central Texas where lawn watering is a big thing, random puddles are the norm. Hit one of those at the right speed without a full fender and your riding gear gets a nasty stripe up the back.

Two reasons: US (not sure about other countries) law requires a certain angle and distance of coverage at the back of a rotating wheel to reduce kick-up of road debris. This also explains the moving front fenders on reverse-trike vehicles like the T-Rex and Can-Am Spider, as well as the chunky fr ont body work of the Slingshot (and the huge muflaps of tractor trailers) . In practice it’s almost never enforced, but it has to be like that from the factory to get D. O. T. approval, and you COULD receive a ticket for defective equipment if a cop or inspection station is feeling particularly sticklerish. Also, rear-side reflectors have to be wit hin a certain distance of the ACTUAL end of the rear of the vehicle, and a minimum height above the ground. The license plate becomes part of the “fender” in most cases, as they have to have something back there for the side reflectors to hang off of weather or not there’s anything else back there. Wish more MFRs would work on solutions like Yamaha has.

What are they even good for unless he joins a circus and has to drive the little people around.

T hey might provide some fallover protection for the rear bodywork.

The jokes about where Toby sits to get to the coast and back.

I dk, that seems pretty bulky yet easy to break.

I thought you were supposed to hide the license plate so you* could do squid things like doing wheelies and then running from the cops.

*Not you, per se , but others.

And this is better?

Kinja'd!!!

(trick question: No, it’s not.) The Yamaha fenderette at least leaves the ass-end of the bike looking clean.

Arizona couldn’t even issue speeding and red light running tickets with your plate on film.

I love my state.

That OE projection certainly looks like an Italian solution to a problem that didn't interest them. So much tidier now though.

As a non moto person, they both look like the first 5mph bumpers added on after the fact.

I would go with one of these mount.
