I’ve got a drafting workstation at home I’d donate to the cause, except that it’s only half-built so far. I keep procrastinating about buying the Quadro card for it. Similarly, I don’t think I have license to rob cycles from my younger brother’s PowerEdge server - more’s the pity, as it’s a double-processor behemoth with I think something like a terabyte of RAM.

While I don’t have any computing power to offer, I love following this and it’s awesome what you started.

I’m using an older PowerEdge server for my two Linux folding VMs. I’ve been somewhat disappointed in the folding power. Mine doesn’t have a discrete GPU, so folding is CPU-only and that really limits it.

The days of big-adv projects utilizing behemoth core counts are long gone but CPUs can still do good work. That being said, unless you have V2 or better xeons to leverage you’re looking at early Zen1 levels of return, at best. Some cycles still better than no cycles.

Even when I don’t think there’s more room to expand processing-wise we keep growing.  Awesome!

Exactly why I keep them working away. What else am I going to spend electricity on?

The CPUs are terribly inefficient. If you want to make a few points, install a used GPU like a 1060 or a GTX580 for around $100, if your case will fit it and your power supply will accommodate it.

I’m going to be buying a Quadro card for 3d CAD/ graphics work. That is a terrible way to get gaming performance for the money, because consumer gaming cards are laden with tricks to speed up game-specific renders and tolerate a higher error rate - so a Quadro retails for around $300 for $100 “gaming” graphics card game performance. However, I suspect for FaH that it would be a very good card, as a card being able to do things like carry over effects between frames or economize lighting or whichever is most likely not that helpful for FaH.
