Main walls complete and electrical all hooked back up. Just have to do the little garage door sidewall bits and put the in new window trim in place to seal everything up for the walls. Then the ceiling “fun” begins. No working on it tomorrow though. Gotta study for a test.

Is this middle outlet up to code?

Good luck. Finals time is stressful.

He should pop that wooden piece off and paint it so he can find that easier.

Seriously though looks great, I went from a garage with 15 amp service at the main box, to a sub-panel with 60 a mps and a 220 circuit. It is great to have the box in the garage in case I pop a circuit, but I never pop a circuit because I don't have a shitty 15 amp service in the garage from the main panel in the basement anymore. Enjoy, you will feel like the king of the world.

The outlet is, yes. Was wired by an electrician with appropriate gauge wire and such. The store was just out of covers at the time for that size of NEMA plug. It’s an industrial rated plug and box so technically doesn’t even need a cover plate. So I just made some quick ones for now until the next trip to the hardware store just to keep wood dust and crap out.
Oh, I suppose it may look like they’re running in the same conductor / circuit. They’re not. The 30 amp outlet is for a compressor. The 50 amp outlet is for my welder. And the conductors run different pathways to get there too. 30 is up and right, 50 is down and right.

This garage originally had no power from 1968 until 2018. And has never had internal walls or insulation. It’s gonna be so much nicer when done. I hummed and hawed over whether to “finish” it or knock it down. While not overly square it was good enough to fix up and invest the time.

It’s Unit 3 of my Millwright course: Reciprocating Compressors, some blueprint stuff, and math. Should be easier than Unit 2 which was every type of drive coupling, chain, belt, driveshaft, clutch, and transmission... plus blue print and math. It was a stressful morning. Then got laid off at lunch. Womp womp. But thanks.

I was mostly joking about your inventive act of camouflage. 10 minutes finessing paint swirls onto it and that would be a very tricky to spot outlet.

or just paint the outlet in a lovely plywood pattern.

Ugh, losing your income stream is just what you need to concentrate. I’m sorry.

It was quite the week. COVID was hitting Calgary, coworker mechanic got laid off the week before me, one the week before that, oil prices dropping precipitately (still way before the negative values), was rushing to finish a work project suspecting the lay off, and knowing I was right up the wire on writing that test. Sucked losing my job, but I’ve either had a job or been a student with a job since I was 11-12 (I’m 37) , and never been on Employment Insurance before. I’m alright fiscally; the wife and I saw the writing on the wall in 2017-18 and started squirrelling money. Being home and spending time together has been kinda nice. It’s like a preview of us retired. And it’s a good preview.

Good on you for looking at the bright side. Blessings are everywhere if you keep your eyes open for them.

I have never seen breakers spaced like that, any functional reason?

I needed two more slots than the next smaller panel size so lots of space. I spaced them out to make the wiring a little easier, and kinda sorted them out a bit. Not really any functional reason. As a nice bonus I never accidentally flick the wrong breaker...
