I miss discount community theaters. There’s nothing wrong, per se, about the modern moviep lex (well, yes there is, but that’s another post), but sometimes I want to just grab a ticket and a soda and not need my GPS to find my way to the right screen. And also not pay half a paycheck for an evening out.

I never thought of that.  I wonder if they are, now that Spring is here.

I’ve only been to one and I think it folded, but that was fun. I didn’t want to watch Planes 2 so I just watched a different one with no sound with some other people.

Wait.  What’s this thing you call a “paycheck”?

so, are you IN Tucson?  We’re through there all the time with a son in town and one up in Tempe.  Usually stay around E. Broadway and Craycroft.  We love Tucson, Nogales, Patagonia.

It was this old timey thing people used to get back when you could actually touch money. Before it was bits and bytes on the inter webs.

Born and raised. Only Tucson and Chicago have ever been “home”. (ETA - yes I live here now).

Saw the picture, “ hey, this is Tucson!” then  realized who was posting. Bear down.

The Loft is an art house theater. They mostly show independent films. Very cool place in a very cool area of Tucson. Feel like you’re back in  1960’s Tucson.  The street it’s on is called Speedway, and is named so because it’s where people used to drag race their wagons.

You see the morons on Mill Ave the other day?

Ah, well that’s not exactly what I had in mind. I remember the small second run houses where you could get a ticket for a buck or two. But art theaters are important community cornerstones, too. Unless you’re in Outbreak , in which case everyone in there dies.

We allowed restaurants to reopen, and the ASU morons packed a bar. I think it’s called CASA.  I went to a restaurant last night, but they limited the number of people in, and spaced everyone out. It was also a huge outdoor patio.

The East Valley has a line like that , owned by a guy named Michael Pollack. Very interesting guy. Made a ton of money in east valley real estate, but I think his theater is run just to give people a cheap option to see movies. Was still only charging $3.50 a ticket. Never changed the price after upgrading to digital . He mostly developed strip malls in low income areas with cheap grocery and clothing  stores, so people would have a place to shop.

I like that.  It’s a different kind of serving the community.
