Oppo related piquing of interest in Trans Am’s. Have to admit I sorta like the understated hood styling. On the other hand a SE Trans Am sounds like internal code FKDUP-TA signifying putting a big fake smile on building up 1500 vehicles with leftover parts the line rejected or on a Friday, LOL .
$12K OBO for admittedly a very fine example
States that require a front plate. :(

Some of my fondest memories are outrunning Trans-am’s and camaro’s of this vintage in my stock Datsun 240z.

My mullet-sense is tingling...
I think 3rd gen F-bodys are going to be the next big thing (or maybe after whatever the next thing is). So $12k seems a little CP right now, but I bet in a few years it will seem a lot more reasonable, maybe cheap even.

This is more like the car you’d see driving past a stadium hair metal concert with a couple reminiscing about how fast they aged out of that and became adults. A professionally acceptable hair style in the near neighborhood of a mullet.

The bigger question was if these were good at being cars. Might have been a little surprised if that was a very nice price.
I’d spend a few minutes looking this over at a Cars & Coffee. C ertainly nothing I see out on the roads locally.

For the condition and mileage that’s probably a pretty good price.
I found a newer example near me that doesn’t list the mileage, and it’s about the same price. It gives you a 350 and a nice button covered steering wheel too.

If you are gonna go for an anniverary edition, I would go for the 1989 turbo indy pace car with the grand national engine imo

I remember these seats actually being very comfortable too. The backs even had a cocoon feeling that I liked.
The 2+2 design is one of the things I like about my Volt too.

That might seem pricey but if the listing isn’t blowing smoke, this seems fair to me for a tight example of a limited run model.

I think it will be an out of state sale or someone who’s enduring BAT syndrome (Nostalgic justification) . Nationally, t he used market value of cars is greatly suppressed here because of Winter weather and state’s decision to use so much salt. AZ/TX/NV/CA cars get brought up here and sold for a premium.

They’re actually not :/
The only thing they’re good for is the fun with the T-tops, and maybe going fast in a straight line if you’re in Texas or Montana and there’s no traffic

That looks extremely nice, but having owned an F-body Trans Am I don’t think I’d pay $12k for one personally. No question they’re going up in value though.

That is a fair assessment. There is a good chance some of the magic BAT waves a wand over vehicles to create is going on here.

I don’t know. T-tops and hard convertible tops are love em or hate em items that don’t have much advantage places where the car itself sits 9 months out of the year.

If it weren’t for this stupid plague, I’d go check it out with you. It’s like 10 minutes from my home.
Also, 550 miles per year is crazy low.
Also Also, that’s 1.5 cents per horsepower

eh, they’re ok in terms of reliability . If the heater core goes, it’s a big job though
Also, the interior really really sucks. OMG what a shitty interior! Absolutely no space; it makes a smart car look spacious, really poor use of space, no trunk space at all, and it doesn’t even have a real glove compartment
The 90-92 Firebirds have two giant cupholders, one in each door. They can hold a double gulp or one of those family size soup containers. The Camaro didn’t get these cupholders. Also, the T-tops are plastic for these years, which is awesome, and lighter than glass, and doesn’t shatter, but unfortunately scratches easy, so anyone who complained during the warranty got glass replacements. Around this time, they also improved the seals, so they don’t leak like older ones are said to do.
The 4th gen is even worse! No room for your right foot at all, even shittier interior,
I’m talking
Tesla build quality here, but at least you do get
a few
cupholders, and enough trunk space to hold the T-tops (and only the T-tops). By far the worst thing about them is that they
put the engine under the windshield
, not under the hood where it belongs, making most service impossible.

The well optioned Camaros are getting up there:
Z28 (
L69+G92 5spds)
IROC-Z (LB9+G92 5spds)
1LE (in either LB9/5spd or L98 form)
B4C (same drivetrain
as 1LE
)
The turbo birds were already pricey. It’s unfortunate about the MacStrut front ends as the 4th Gens got the much improved SLA. Though Madarash used to dominate SCCA ESP in his (before he moved to CP).

Generally try not to bother sellers I’m not quite serious about buying from. Getting more views for their ad is at least helpful.
This is really clean and deserves to go to someone who will treat it just as good.

Holy ratballs, I had one of those. I bought it used in 1988 and kept it two years. I traded a base-spec ‘82 T/A toward it - a/c was a big upgrade for me at the time. ( that car taught me to hate pop-up headlights)
A fire-breathing 190hp 305 with a 5 speed stick made for a fun car for 20 year old me. It didn’t sound half-bad when you punched it and the cowl flap opened up. I had to flip over the air cleaner lid on the old T/A to get the same sound. I kinda wish I had it now; it’d make for a hella fun project car with LS powah. And the t-tops never leaked. Honest.
Wait... just read the ad... Automatic?
Move alone, nothing to see here..

190 HP, at the crank, assuming it reall y i s the HO version. Otherwise it’s 150 HP.
If it’s supposed to be a sports car it needs to be light or powerful. This one is neither. Not so much GM’s fault. It was just a bad time for cars. I think you can do a lot better for that amount of money.

I have a 92 WS6 T/A convertible. Unfortunately, the ragtops mandated the 305 which is a bummer. But, mine is a 5-speed which upgraded the interna ls of the 5.0 to make the horsepower equal to a 350, so I got that going for me. People have to remember that this generation of F-bodies were built in arguably the darkest time for factory horsepower. A Corvette only had about 250. These cars are still a lot of fun especially with a manual transmission. Just don't race any minivans.

They are certainly iconic cars reminiscent of something closer to cruising the drag than drag racing. Or whatever vestiges of that survived into the 80's/90's. Certainly couldn’t hold it against a HS kid for choosing the cooler slower option with less safety features. Or an adult for that matter.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
