Unable to resist a good deal, I’ve purchased another 27" monitor, this time an HP HC271p, a device that lists for $849 but often sells for more . I have a few that 27 inch monitors that I use on a daily basis , but they’re only 1920X1080 and I’ve wanted something with a higher resolution. This one is meant for the medical industry, does not have a stand, and has a resolution of 2560 x 1440. I prefer a 16:10 display, but for $159 I can learn to live with 16:9. The closest thing I could find at this price is a Vseven (who?) monitor for $225. This one is probably better built that the typical consumer grade part, and that makes me feel a little better.
I do have a 27" on a VESA mount, and can probably use it there. Or perhaps I’ll check my piles of junk and see if I have a stand that I can use to make this my primary monitor. It won’t make my folding any faster, but will probably give the ol’ GTX 1080 a bit of a workout. OK, the refresh rate isn’t going to impress the gam ing community, but that doesn’t matter much to me.

Good choice and NP.
V7 is an in house brand of Ingram Micro, one of the big tech distributors. Fine for cables and stuff but nothing special.
A couple of years ago there were several ultra cheap QHD IPS monitors on the market, but the pricing seems to have gone up on them now. I’ll be sticking with the 30” I bought 10 years ago until it dies or dual link DVI become too much of a hassle.

Ooh, 30 inch monitor - nice. A few years ago a friend set up a 30" flanked by a pair of 27s and I was a bit jealous. I guess when you drop $4K on a Mac Pro you have to have the appropriate monitors to go with it, whereas I build and upgrade over time and use whatever I get at a great price, new or used.
I’m actually pretty happy with the debranded HP 24" that I use as my main monitor, but I’ve wanted something with a higher resolution than 1980 X 1200. I use a 27" as my secondary monitor, and there’s a 42" monitor sitting next to me if I need a bigger screen; that one was $20 and had issues, but I found the problem a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure what to do with it, but it’s nice knowing it’s there if I ever find a use for it...

I’m all about the cheapness and all of mine were bought used. It’s a triple setup with the Hazro 30” and two 4:3 20” from NEC and Sharp. Makes for a 4960x1600 desktop, which is a nice amount of space.
Running with a GTX1070, the real limit is starting to be the i5-4440. I can’t really complain as I’ve had five years out of it.

It wont be much of an issue with the GTX 1080 for most games at 60hz/fps , i also got one but i got a 100hz 21/9 34" screen in 3440* 1440 which is a bit more problematic depending on the game, i have to downscale and use “mild” graphic settings in most recent games to keep it between 60 and 100fps (it makes a very dramatic difference) .
Also, h aving a 75 or 100+hz screen is also miles better than a 60hz to watch movies or TV as they are 24/25fps, which makes a stuttering/jerkiness when watching them on a 60hz screen as 24 is not a multiple of 60 so it has to speed up the images to 30fps then drop 1 frame every 5 frames to keep the image in sync with the sound .
One of the solutions is to use SmoothVideoProject , which i have been using for years, n ow t o interpolate ~ 25fps videos to 50fps to make them smoother which i cant go back from after having “ tasted” it, you should really give it a try if you don’ t know about it .

I’m using an RCA LED TV as my monitor. I got it for free in a raffle. The max resolution sucks at 1360x768... but it’s adequate for my purposes on the system I’m using it on.

Thanks for that link - I’ll have to check it out.
I do use another 27" as a TV in that room, but 95%+ of that viewing is done from the Apple TV. I had to get a box to extract the audio since that monitor doesn’t have any audio functions. The 24" HP does have sound over HDMI but it’s input only (and sounds a bit tinny on those small built-in speakers) which really makes me miss my old LG 23" display - it had an audio output port that I could run to an amp and that was extremely handy. I could fix it (blown capacitors), but the stand is broken, and these days 23" and full HD just seem kind of small. I wanted to bring some of my monitors from home into the office since the stuff in my junk pile is better than what we were forced to use on a daily basis, with most of the screens being 19 or 20", with one station even having an ancient 4:3 screen as the secondary.
