Normally I’m one to insult special edition military/police stuff, but hot damn that green is good. Would it be a good first bike? Unlikely! Do I want it anyway? Absolutely!

I’ve always loved and wanted a royal Enfield. They're beautiful and quirky and cheap.

My first bike was a ‘78 CM185 with a leaky headgasket. You’ll be fine.

Forget a moto. You should be looking at tracked vehicles with reasonably sized heated and insulated cabin.

No to spur you on but...

It’s okay as a first bike actually. It’s a little heavy but the same power as the sport 300cc that the majority of people start on these days.

That didn’t stop me from spending the last hour looking at them online.

They’re actually not bad starter bikes— standard seating position, enough power to keep up with traffic but not enough to easily get yourself into trouble. Work  fine around 30-50 mph and cheap enough where it’s not the end of the world if you drop it.   A buddy bought a Continental GT as a first bike and it was a great fit...until it started dumping oil from a crack in the engine block.

I have received multiple warnings about dubious build quality.

Goddamn do I desperately want this. I’ve known too many people who have had close friends/family die riding, but shit like this makes me want to start.

I saw lots of them in India, they are like the Harleys of India.

My impression from riding my buddy’s was that it’s a new bike that’s built like an old bike—mirrors shook like crazy, folks Loc-Tite down the bolts to stop them from vibrating loose, etc. That said, they’re very straightforward machines, but there’s a small U.S. dealer network if you need something more major. Still, should be a fine first motorcycle if that’s what you’re looking for, and they are very good looking. People tend to think they’re classic motorcycles and I got more thumbs up on two rides of that Conti than I have in  three years of ownership of my modern Triumph Tiger.

I found this place while cruising random industrial backstreets with napping kids in the back seat.

Check out the massive back lot full of them on that satellite view!

Cool, glad you got the kids to sleep too.
