What’s it like living in a state with no inspections?

I see a DQ, a fishing boat and WI plates - yep, checks out.

Given the silly prices on used Rangers, that’s probably a five-figure vehicle right there.

Whoa, I never noticed that it’s able to get both of its front paws up off the ground before it starts running. I wouldn’t expect it to be able to balance like that at all.

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this version without Shaq

Yep, Florida’s the same way, I’m always shocked at the absolute heaps you see running around down there, especially toward the interior of the state, away from tourist areas. On the other hand, I’ve had car dealers tell me that something with a recent Maryland inspection is worth a slight premium on trade in or private party in neighboring states, due to their more stringent requirements. Don’t know if that’s true or not, but I’d certainly be willing to pay a bit more for an older car from MD vs. one from DE, since our inspections do exist more in theory.

I used to live where there were annual inspections, now I don’t. There’s no real difference, there is rusted out junk everywhere around both
. If anything, there are fewer around here (without inspections) since neglected cars are left to fail and be replaced, rather than be limped along with a balljoint this year and a tie rod next, etc.

I see a lot more crapwagons on the road in NY when I go back to visit (state inspections) than I do here in CO (no inspections).
I li ved in northern NY, where everyone knows everyone, and when it was time for inspection, most of the shops would just hand you a sticker after making sure the lights worked, if they did even that.
When I lived in VA (inspections), I had replaced the brakes on my CRX prior to inspection. Went to a shop for inspection, and they wouldn’t pass me, said my brakes were below minimum remaining material. I asked them to show me, and they said customers aren’t allowed in the shop. I went to another and had no problem.
State inspections aren’t all they’re cracked up to be...

I’ve lived in three states with no inspections and one with, and while there’s garbage on the road everywhere, by far the worst was in the state that has inspections. The difference? It’s the only one of the four where rust is a serious problem.

And yet that truck is still safer than the soccer mom staring at her phone with a car load of kids in her shiny new CUV..

Frankly, I love it. You can be much more liberal with engine modifications

we don’t generally have rust issues here, so no inspection needed in Victoria, Australia.

Without rust tires, brakes, tie rods, ball joints and the like all live forever?
