For one, the public decided that the speed limit on highways should be 95 mph .
All cars are capable of going faster... and slower, but somehow 95 is where it was settled. Don’t yell at me. I am not the only one on the road.
I am sure there are other things we will have discovered, but every morning, during this pandemic, that is what I am seeing. 95 mph

I traveled to South Dakota recently. 85 is fast enough. Although this was in a 16’ box truck for work, and there’d be cars occasionally passing us.

Imagine you were behind the wheel of a corvette, tho?
Just something faster than a box truck. No implying that corvette is fastest or best. In fact it’s a fast piece of shit I would like to wrap around a tree, but I can’t because “ save manuals” .

The NY Northway (interstate 87 north of Albany) has already made this determination. There are virtually no speed enforcement units on that section of highway, very few corners, and the pavement is in pretty good condition . 9 5mph is pretty much the standard daytime, clear weather speed there . Most people and modern cars (even pickup trucks) are comfortable at 95, more than that and people/handling gets a little nervous. So 95 it is. The last time I was on the Northway I had to go 110 to pass some people, because the car behind me was up my ass like a proctologist.

There’s the conclusion, no study needed.

uhhh... you were driving 5 mph under new speed limit. Good thing you didn’t get pulled over and get a ticket for driving too slow

Some shit box Windstar minivan from what looked like early 90s passed me in my C5. He must have been cooking well over 100. I was not impressed by the speed. I was impressed bits of the minivan weren’t falling off

That has been the agreed upon speed limit that I observed (as a child) for Chicago on my first trip up there about 35 years ago. Every rental car out of O’hare as an adult has used that same approximate speed limit for the last 20 years.
Well, I mean on the stretches that weren’t under construction.

When I lived up there, the stretch between Albany and Saratoga Springs was always full of NYSPD on speed trap duty. I take it they've shifted resources away from that?

When was that? There seems to be some presence up to Saratoga Springs during the summer tourist season , but if you keep going north there’s nothing... Heading to the airport when I traveled for a living was always a race, unless traffic was at a standstill...

Ca. 2013-2015, it was probably mostly in the summer, but there always seemed to be a lot of them off on the shoulder.

The average person can’t properly handle their vehicle at 25 mph, there’s no way in hell they can handle it at 95 mph.

Not so in Central Florida. So much revenue was lost with the end of tourism that speed traps are everywhere. I've never seen more police out than right now.

A few flamboyant whiny zero self-awareness unfireable overcompensated sheriffs in WA have declared their disdain to lawful COVID-related restrictions, and that they won’t enforce or abide by lawful orders. Why should people abide by their often arbitrary speed limits?
Fortunately in WA, 75 is seen as recklessly fast by the average drone on the road, so examples of superspeeders are only trickling in (sometimes with bogus looking radar claims).

wow. Average joe tourist spends maybe 1k for hotel. Maybe 500 to 1K on car rental. Maybe 500-1K on entertainment and food.
So let’s call it generous 3k. That will be a LOT of speed tickets to compensate economy for 3K lost ( per couple?)
