Like the previous incomplete ‘ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , we have a new incomplete list... “ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ”

I think oil changes should have been on that list even for non-car people.

I’m not a hardcore car person, but I’ve adjusted valves, replaced starters, replaced spark plugs, flushed coolant and a bunch of other things.

What would you add to that list?

Here is a youtube vid of funny car repairs for your time:

Oh, c’mon!  That cordless drill for the “power window” conversion is clever, as was the wood slat grille on the Chebby.  I quickly run out of praise after that however...

Brakes, radiator, hoses, bearings, rotate tires, shocks & springs... these are a few of my favorite things.

Rotating tires is definitely there, as that is just knowing how to change a tire (which everyone should know how to do for emergency situations).

Changing most bulbs for cars ( though as old cars die and leds take over this is less of a thing.)

Honestly, I feel like everyone should be up for trying to do most repairs (unless it voids a warranty) because turning a wrench is turning a wrench

Ill second breaks  is a great intro job. Disks anyway. Haven’t done drums. If someone can help the first time your good to go.

I think some things would be dependent on the car itself. Spark plugs can be dead simple, but throw some transverse mounted V motors into the mix and it becomes a nightmare.

I’d say most vehicles that use shocks as opposed to struts should be easy for most people. Heck if we’re talking rear shocks on a truck, van, or suv you rarely even need to own a jack.

Air and cabin filters are at least worth investigating whether it’s feasible to DIY. Very few engine air filters require more than one or two tools. Cabin air filters are either very simple or an absolute nightmare.

Belts are the same way. Either they take a few minutes or require half the front end to be removed for access.

Disk brakes are something that can be intimidating but are generally pretty straight forward.

Bulbs might be as simple as opening an access door or requiring removing the grill and half the bumper.

But what happens when a nut fights, when the coolant stings... and when you’re feeling saaaaad?

PCV and coil packs and sparkplugs are all I can come up with to go with oil changes and filters. But, it also depends on the car. Once I got my GTI, I checked out what I could do on my own, and decided most general maintenance was doable with my meager mechanical skills. I’m not about to change the timing chain or try to fix an exhaust leak, but replacing the PCV breather and draining the  DSG fluid are things I want to do.
