I work in the Capitol Hill area of DC. Before my latest purchased I noticed a few VWs in the area. Now that my eye is focused on the brand more I see them all. A surprising number of Passats, a few base model Jettas Mk5-7 and quite the amount of Sportwagens and Alltracks.

By far the most common vehicle is the Golf and all it’s variants. A few Rs but sooo many GTIs. You can almost ride down any residential street for about five blocks and at least see three of them. The more GTIs that I see the more I begin to love my GLI for being not so common. As a matter of fact I have yet to see one from any generation in the Capitol Hill area.

Glad you’re liking it. I love my dime-a -dozen GTI as well, and you’re right, they are everywhere .

That’s a great pic.

I bet there are so many Golfs around there because the DC/NoVa area usually has the cheapest VW prices in the country. Although I’d think that would mean there’d be lots of Jettas, Tiguans etc too.

Congratulations! I always do a double take when I see a GLI (so, like 4 times now). They are pretty unique and understated.

Sportwagons are everywhere up here in VT. More common than Outbacks.

I have the exact same car out here in SoCal. I've seen maybe 2 since their release last year. I love it so far. I had been itching to get back into a sporty sedan since I got rid of my 08 Fa5 back in 2012. Great pic BTW.

I had a 19' GTI S, but traded it in within a couple months for the 19' GLI Autobahn w/DSG . I love the car but it is the most embarrassing car I’ve ever owned due to its sound at start up. All you can hear is rattling in the engine compartment for about 30 seconds to a minute until idle kicks down and car is getting warmed up. No CEL’s, dealer says its normal, it’s some type of diverter valve. Still, it sounds worse than any new or used car I’ve owned in the past, some with over 325,000 miles on them. Should have stuck with my 18' Civic Si or my 20' Veloster N for my grocery getter.

Thanks. Just played around with a few filters on my phone then filtered it through IG. I love the GTI but didn’t care for a sunroof. Just wanted an S with the light package.

Also the deal I was given was unbelievable. OTD for $21k new. Couldn't beat that deal at all.

Not too many Tiguans. Probably due to parking issues and those have grown considerably.

Only time I see one is on dealer lots. It's a shame

Once I get to a laptop and take a few more photos. I'm 1400 miles in so now I can be a little objective.

21k including sales tax and d&h?

Yes including taxes and all the above. It was a leftover 2019. At the time there were 6 of these in a 40 mile radius of the exact trim, color and transmission. Just chose the closest one to my house. Also economy is shot so they are trying to get whatever deal possible done.

Wow you've had quite the number of exciting cars recently. What made you decide to go DSG?

Ahhhh I've always loved that K20. Was sort of considering one but went against it. Also considered a 9th Gen with the K24. The current Civic is not easy on the eyes and the only trim I'd like in Si form is the one they won't sell (the hatch).

I bought a new 2019 pure white GLI S manual at the end of March in Austin. I got the same deal you did. A bunch of money off and an out the door price of $21k. I mainly bought it because of the warranty of 2019s is better than anything else, but also manual and GLI.

Nice to know the deal is all over. And yes 6yr/72k is a wonderful deal for a VW. Shame the 2020s don't get it but hey I'm not complaining. Loving yours so far? I for sure am and the fuel economy is astounding.

Yeah, it’s been great.  I also have a 2012 Beetle Turbo and a Touareg V8.  I need something with a warranty right now.  Also, the fuel economy has been great.  I’m averaging over 30.  The Beetle has never been that great.  Maybe 25 or 26 at best.  The only drawback I’ve noticed in 1,800 miles is the all season tires.  They’re quiet, but don’t stick that well.  I’ll be replacing those as soon as I can.  Oh, and if you haven’t already, get ready for an oil change.  I just did my first oil change at 1,300 miles.  It had sat that long that the year was up on the initial oil from the factory.  I did it myself.  Cost me about $50 with a kit from ECS Tuning.

Did the same thing myself. Got a 35th Anniversary GLI M6 for 23k OTD. Love the car so far. Have tinkered with it a bit. Trying not to go too crazy with the mods as the warranty was one of the reasons I bought it.

A V8 Touareg??? You’re a brave soul. How are the electrical gremlins with that classic? Oil change is on the way shortly. What weight oil did you use?

I’m thinking the same. I have a very short list. APR+ tune because it replaces the  powertrain warranty, lowering springs, intake and exhaust. Then of course wheels, tires and brakes as well. But the way this car stops now is AMAZING. The front brakes sure do make a lot of brake dust though.

I actually haven’t had any electrical gremlins. Just an A/C compressor that went bad. That was $3,000 because Audi uses some kind of weird reverse mounted compressor that is run off a shaft that is driven from the back of the engine. Stupid. It has almost 99k miles on it. I expect to do coils and plugs soon. It needs a trans fluid change too, but the T2s tend to be more reliable than the T1s. I had a 2006 VR6 that was quite reliable for the 8 years I owned it.

I used 5w-40 Audi/VW brand oil I got with the oil change kit from ECS Tuning. I used an extractor and was done in like 10 minutes. The kit was $50 including the filter, new o-ring and an oil change label I didn’t use. It came with 6 quarts of oil. I was surprised to find the Gen 3 EA888 uses an additional quart than the CCTA in my Beetle, which I think is the Gen 1 EA888. I really like the torque of the Gen 3. It’s very diesel-esque. The Gen 1 needs a few revs and loves to bog.

I may upgrade to the digital cockpit and 8" center screen. But, that’s about it. I’m not one of those that likes to lower the car and ruin VWs suspension tuning which I think is very well done without the adjustable suspension.
