Bizarre Door Cards

I’ve been on the hunt to replace my “makeshift pseudo-RS style” door cards since I made them to replace the waterlogged orginals the 924 had come with years ago. I acquired a set of original door cards for my 924 from a friend that had a set lying in his storage unit. The reason they’re bizarre is because of the material: Herringbone Tweed.

The custom cards I made from worn out 944 cards given to me by a friend years ago.

I never even knew such an interior option existed for 924s. It must be a very early (late 70s) thing. These came off his ‘79 that he converted into an ITB racecar. One had a wee bit of water damage along the edges, but that wasn’t anything some fiberglass couldn’t reinforce! Seriously, Herringbone interiors must be rare, because I can hardly find anything on them, and this was the best pic I could find of an original interior:

Is my interior gonna look weird as all hell? YEP!

I like it! You should buy these herringbone driving gloves that seem very similar. I’m not saying that I own them, but if I did they fit well and are comfortable, though there appears to be no difference between L and XL.

Then I could have separate gloves for the Mustang and 924! And those look sharp! If Porsche actually sold driving gloves, I’d have bought them by now. I reckon I’ve got average sized hands, but I get the best fit in anything medium or slightly smaller.

I even had a tweed jacket I grew out of a couple years ago! Time to get another for fall!

I actually really like them. I took them offroading in December and they were comfortable to wear all day and kept my hands reasonably warm when outside in the ~18F weather.

I feel a bit silly for owning fingerless driving gloves, but ahh well.

Fingerless gloves have their place. Though, I will agree that fingerless gloves in December could be seen as questionable haha.

This is why my interior is gonna look weird as hell haha. Champagne seats with a dark blue carpet. Whenever the day comes that I can afford to recover the seats, I believe a darker tan or shade of brown will complement this very well.

Champagne should work with the herringbone. Darker tan or brown would be an improvement though.
