Have you seen the very recent news that the Coronavirus task force at the federal level is going to be disbanded in the next month? Yeah.

We’ve already got 2,185 new deaths today in the US, and that’s with social distancing practices and tens of millions of people sitting at home with nowhere to go. If anything, a full reopen will far exceed 3k deaths a day, before we just start running out of at-risk people to unnecessarily endanger.

Much easier to ignore the issue when you stop collecting data on it. We’re going full herd immunity under the (quite possibly mistaken)  assumption that it’s even possible to do that.

Stay in touch with your parents and older family members. It’s going to be a rough landing...

Lotta obese people in this country. That at-risk list covers a large %   of the population. Add in the p ossible long term side effects of the virus, which  are scary too for normal folks - lung, heart issues, etc. Those in charge are lining up things   to be less than ideal long term...

What’s your take on the Biden sexual assault allegations? No big deal because it’s the presidency not a seat on the Supreme Court?

I think Biden should step aside because I don’t think he’s mentally fit, but there are good reasons to be skeptical about the assault claim.

Once again:

Kinja'd!!!

And today we have this:

https://www.newser.com/story/290497/2-make-the-case-we-must-accept-more-deaths.html

21st century American conservatism defined: Sacrifice for thee, not for me. I am sure plenty of these chucklefucks would send their own mom or aunt (or themselves, as many of them are in the vulnerable demographic) to the grave to “save the economy”.

A pox on those who voted for this, and the overpriveleged drones who continue to play devil’s advocate while claiming not to be a fan of 45.

I’m liking the dementia thoughts in all this . Have any of the 45 lovers here (including those who lack the stones to admit they support his regime) actually seen the orange menace speak?  The deplorables should love dementia, they voted for it once and are lining up to do it again.

Biden is probably going to win, but that doesn’t give me much hope because even apart from being a sex pest, he’s an empty suit. T he people pulling his strings are more basically competent than the people surrounding Trump, but since they’re also spineless establishment Democrats who are permanently stuck in the Reagan-era mindset of thinking the country is fundamentally Republican, they will not be willing to do the necessary things to get this country out of its greatest crisis in a century. November will not be a return to normal by a LONG shot. The c razy is just getting started.

Definitely. That’s where I am. Biden, a painfully flawed candidate, is the best the Ds can muster in opposition?  Still a lesser evil, but also still an evil at the same time, and not a way forward.

Whenever someone says “only 1% of the population will die! It’s not a huge deal!” remind them: 1% of the US population is more than three million people.

What is normal? I haven’t felt like there was a ‘ normal’ decent option for president since before I turned 18 in 1996, and I can only go back that far as I don’t remember the Reagan era well enough to comment.

And those of them who didn’t just start caring about their health in February of 2020 will remind you that about 48% of Americans have some form of the deadliest disease in our nation, and it’s mostly because of their shit diet and sedentary lifestyle.

We were an unhealthy, sick nation long before corona virus. The fact it will only kill 1% of our largely  unhealthy population actually surprises me.

Kinja'd!!! DipodomysDeserti > Gone

I think a lot of people fail to realize that almost half our country has some form of cardiovascular disease, and that it is a whole lot deadlier than covid. It’ll be interesting to see how history treats our determination of underlying cause of death during this pandemic.

For example, if someone has AIDS, and they die of a cold, you don’t record their death as a cold death, you record it as an AIDS death.

If someone has COPD or coronary artery disease, and they die of a respiratory virus that heathy people mostly recover from or don’t even get sick from, is the virus really the underlying cause of death?

For the record, I’m not some right wing nut, and had this exact conversation with my sister, right after she worked a covid unit.

If you’ve given up on America, I hope you’re brushing up on your Mandarin.

I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t to read A People’s History. America has dealt with plenty of dolts in power. Overcame them all.  We’ve even recovered from a pandemic or two, or three, or four...

It’s not like the US is going to protect us from our most significant trading partner, our most significant source of international students and our most significant source of tourist arrivals...

As for dolts and pandemics, so have pretty much ever other country or culture on the planet. The USA is not special in that regard... although it’s having a red hot go this time around.

I think you’ll find that the last four years have simply seen your country added to the list of unreliable partners.

As for most of us normal people like me and my mates...these days no-one is that interested in the US anymore other than as a source of entertainin g dumbfuckery. All the stupidity is diminishing the good things that your country and its society does...

I can see you’ve never read any Howard Zinn if you think that statement was about American exceptionalism. It was about how the people who built America, the working class, will continue to carry on despite our shitty leaders (as many working class do all around the world). We obviously lag behind the rest of the developed world in that regard, but I’d much rather be a worker here than in China. And despite all our faults, there isn’t another country in the world that can stand up to them.

For all the shitty things our leaders have done over the last four years, we still have the power to tell them to fuck off.

I don’t know what a normal person is, but my mates and I really don’t give a shit about what leaders our brothers and sisters around the world elect. We care more about them rolling over and being told what to do. And we certainly don’t classify the entire populace of a nation based on what political leaders are in power.

My sister was a tear gassed by police at a Trump rally a few years ago. She was there to provide aid to people in case it got violent. She’s currently working in a covid unit, also getting her doctorate, with an infant and a toddler at home. Had a margarita with her last night.

Trump and Covid ain’t got shit on people like us.

I hate to say it but, internationally, Americans have always been classified by ‘America’ regardless of whether ones experience of Americans is anecdotal, experiential or via the media.... certainly in Oz. My SiL is from the US and despises the way things are there...

Ultimately, I'm not that interested in geopolitics though I am intrigued by people's reactions to it...
