Got insurance for it tonight. 2006 Azera with 104,000 miles. Its still registered to my father in law but as long as I insure it and keep it running its mine. I still haven’t figured out the 3 car issues yet. Also im finding its not is as great of shape as I thought. The rear sunshade doesn’t come up the front valve cover appears to be leaking and the drivers side front spring seems to be down compared to the rest.

Kinja'd!!!

Still, I could do a lot worse for free.

Its also got a pretty loud tick on the engine but I think I recall it was always like this cold. We’ll see. Oil is fresh and clean and all maintenance is up to date.

One thing I’m bummed about is that even though its got the premium sound system there is no AUX port. Good ol tape adapter for me for now.

It only gets 19 city, but thats still 6 better than I’ m getting now and if I have to travel the 26 highway will be a lot nicer than the 13 highway Im getting. mainly Im excited to keep miles off the tires of the cruiser. Plus with the rash of thefts of off-road and overland vehicles of late it will be nice to keep it tucked away.

If you are wondering how it drives think late 90's cadillac seville.  Same smells, similar get up, similar crappy plastics.  Hope it doesn’t end up being a money pit.

My Mom’s 2014(?) just had it’s engine replaced at 75k, and now it’s trans is going out at 76k... Luckily it’s under warranty. Unluckily the trans is sporadic, as it didn’t slip for the warranty guy. I moved it the other day, and inching it forward was like dumping a clutch. Good luck. Supposedly the pre-DI 3.3 and 3.8 engines are pretty bulletproof though.

Do you think the off-road vehicle theft is a reply to the general soaring demand of 70's-90 's SUVs, a actual organized operation local to you, or what?

Did those have the bigger 3.8 V6 or share the 3.3 with the Sonata. My father has a 2006 closing in on 250k. Only major repair was the transmisson calling it quits at 220k. Put a few hundred in it and she's still on the road, even still has some nice get up n go.

There isn't one in the armrest cubby, the base of the center stack, or the glove box?

You will probably end up returning it (if at all) in better condition than you got it. Those had an electric rear sunshade? Neato!

A fancy Hyundai in 2006.... had a TAPE DECK?! I knew those were kicking around into the 00's a bit, but... wow.

Still, better than the purgatory of cars that decided an in-dash 6-cd changer was the peak of music technology and had no provision for an AUX in, and you couldn’t use a tape adapter either (I’m looking you YOU, 2005 Volvo S40/V50). And some others I’m sure.

Great car for free!

Hey my 2008 Lexus had a tape deck. And yes this has an in dash changer with no aux.

That’s ... somehow not surprising from Lexus. Still, 2008? I mean, I was quick to abandon CDs because I hated them, but I think I stopped regularly using CDs even, around 2008-ish. I just hated how easy it was to scratch them. In particular, I wanted to banish CDs from the boat as quickly as possible, that was a disaster.

But I digress.

yeah, I gotta figure out the boat this year.  We have the old sony Xplode system and its got a killer sound, but its only aux input right now is the old ipod connector.  I think I’ll find a bluetooth adapter that will work.

I think it’ s something to do with the idea that a vehicle like that is well prepared for some kind of apocalypse .  Well built new and old vehicles are getting stolen all over the place.  its about once a week Fred Williams of Dirt Everyday posts a cool truck thats been stolen.

Definitely, a cheap bluetooth dongle should work, that’s what I used in my old boat, and I might revert to that even now, because the bluetooth of my media receiver head unit is finicky. You can even ditch the head unit entirely with a Roswell Cybox for a little over $100. Not a bad option.
