I don’t miss CRTs, but to be honest, I would not be at all upset if LCD makers added a button for simulated de gauss.

Personally, I still like a good CRT for certain applications - mainly viewing older content and period correct use with older computers. Modern LCDs are far superior in modern applications though .

Also, some nostalgia:

Was that their marketing name for Sony Trinitron tubes?

Also, those things were so ridiculously heavy. The only upside to CRTs was their high resolutions and even brightness, otherwise I strongly prefer modern LCD panels. Laptop screens were still pretty sketchy back then.

I seem to recall Mag monitors being kind of terrible, do I remember that right? I had a 15” Sony in college in the late 90s I thought was pretty great .

Man it’s weird thinking back to that time - I don’t think I knew anyone with a laptop until at least my junior year (1998) and even then it was a tiny handful. WIFI was barely invented and actually having Ethernet in your room was kind of a novel thing at the time.
