Surprise! The hatchback is the “best subcompact SUV” (C^2UV? What?) according to Motor Trend.
Predictably, the dreadful CHR comes last, but the Kicks pulls a surprising second place. I wonder why the Hyundai Kona was excluded?
EDIT:
Hot Take!
The Toyota CHR is a "hatchback coupe" because ignoring the meaning of words can go both ways. I still hate it.

I’d take the Soul...

If you put plastic on the bottom of a hatchback that makes it an SUV.
I also find it funny how the Soul looks taller than all of the other cars in the image.

It has just as much ground clearance and is actually better in literally every way, including styling, actual height, and “command seating,” so I just don't get it.

A “dossier” on comparing sedans/hatchback to CUVs “ More thirsty, slower and more expensive than sedans: what are SUVs for? ”, at least here they are not as bland as the American models and more colorful.

At least, its n ice to note that the base color on a Peugeot 2008 is “Orange Fusion” and on a Renault Captur is “Bleu Marine Fumé” (Smoked Navy) and white or gray or black cost more.

You should try to get out of the grays.
Thanks, that was a good article through the clunky Google translate.
“anecdotal gain in livability and skills on and off bitumen” was particularly funny yet also true.
“ the higher ground clearance therefore only serves to occasionally climb the sidewalks to park as a warning in front of a bakery” They do make passively threatening the baker easier though.
F” the paintwork bodies exposed as much, similar road tires and, in the vast majority of cases, all-wheel drives to absent subscribers complete the table of backpackers who only have the name." I hope those backpackers don't have MY name.

They came with 6 speeds? That seems advanced for a cheap mid 2000s car where 5 was the norm. I like that though. Very much a cute ute.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Its a common thing to do that in case the last baguette we bought there was a little burnt, make him remember that we can roll-coal our powerful 4 cylinder diesel if front of its windows if required ; its a form of micro-protesting.

You are obviously not one of those backpackers as you are present at the table.

2009 and older had 5 speeds and 4 speed auto and the older 141Hp engine
2010-2012/2013 had 6 speeds, the auto became CVT and new 150hp with VVT
Only the mags changed on the 2010 refresh. I loved my SX4 from new till I totalled it. I just changed the oem summers to general grabber at2 the summer before..

I’d take the Soul, hands-down, and
I don’t actually mind the Kona...sadly neither have a manual trans option here though :(

And to continue my mumbling, the base Juke (at least in France) is in “Rouge Toscane” (Tuscany Red) :
The base Citroen C3 Aircross is in “Rouge Pepper” :
The VW Tiguan base color is... gray or gray and white :(
The Open Crossland X base color is “Rouge Piment” (piment means... chili pepper ), being the cousin of the C3 Aircross and the 2008 its not shocking :
The base Kona is in “Ceramic Blue” (which is a nice teal) :
An Audi Q2 has two free choices : black or white and the only non-gray/white “colors” are a mettalic red for 850€, a cristal blue at 1250€ (not sure what cristal means) or Audi Exclusive colors for 2850€... for a car that is already more than 10K€ more than a base Kona for example.
The Ford Puma has two free base colors : “Bleu Abysse” and “Rouge Racing”, good job !

So the Germans are terrible at this and the only American brand i checked did the best.

Sounds like a unique and lovable little blighter. I didn’t know they were sold so long; considering how few of them I’ve seen I wouldn’t have been surprised to hear of a 2 year run rather than 6 year.

The right time is about a week before you see them.
I saw your edits and your other comment. I like the enthusiasm for colorful paint on cheap cars. I am somewhat of a connoisseur myself.
I don’t understand why the original owner chose this amazing orangish red with a bronze flake as one of around 3 options, but I am grateful.
The Germans can go color crazy when they want to (see: VW) but right now they have lapsed into a depressing spiral of grayscale monotone crossovers.
And the fact that the French have realized people are more willing to pay more to blend with dark serious colors than to stand out with bright fun colors is good news if PSA ends up on our shores in the next few years. I really hope that their careful gradual introduction works out.

Yes, they are some of the only small cars available right now that don’t seem ashamed of their small stature. The colorful paint options do help as well.

I don’t mind as much if you call these crossovers or CUV’s (though still very wrong) but SUV’s these are not. These aren’t even distantly related to SUV’s. If you can’t even BUY awd on one, it doesn’t count as a light truck...and I mean that literally. I don’t know how they sneak into this category because light trucks are required (to be in the EPA category) to have a mostly utility function and not a mostly passenger function or have features that enable off-highway op eration. These fit neither category.

They didn’t bring the Kona because it’s a size larger, just like they didn’t include the Kia Seltos or Nissan Rogue Sport.

Yes, i really love the color of your car.
Unfortunately my cars are a very dark metalic gray and a met alic black .
I would say that most white car here are this “color” because it was the free option ; with new models that have a real base color, it seems that new cars are more colorful than the ones from 5 years ago ( but i might be wrong) .
Forgot to mention the Dacia Duster have a free “Bleu Navy” (along with “Blanc Glacier”) option for most (all?) of its cars that is very popular :

That is a nice subtle blue. Too bad colors are almost always paid options. The world would be less dreary without grayscale cars with angry faces wanting everyone to take them seriously all the time.

So does this make the PT Cruiser more of an SUV than the Kicks? I agree with you completely except your use of apostrophes in plurals.

False. SUVs are truck based.
