I had their service for a while, and my mother is, I believe, still a customer.

In my case, their fob thingie couldn’t survive the summer rainstorms.

And now their business can’t survive the pandemic-storm.

It’s an OBD adapter wrapped into  a service. Tracks your stats and your location, will call for help if it detects a crash, that sort of thing.

Ahhh, to have an OBD- II port... wouldn’t that be nice...

I should be offended something thinks I would stoop so low as to own one...

(Ok, old Jeeps are an acceptable exception to that rule.)

Three-speed slushbox Thunderbird is my exception to that rule.

My Eagle has a 3 speed auto... I’ve managed to figure out how to fuel inject it... I shall eventually figure out how to 3 pedal it... I guess 4 pedal  with it’s current park brake setup. But that’s gotta go too. 3 pedals, handbrake, 4WD, brown, wagon. Someday!

I don’t quite understand how a subscription based service that functions primarily through cellular and Internet data would be killed off by this pandemic... I mean unless all their subscribers sudd enly ditched them as an unneeded expense, I guess that could do them in...  B ut their model seems to be the exact type that WOULD survive. I wonder if this was a convenient time for their investors to say “well, you weren’t profitable enough, so we’re taking this opportunity to shut you down without people being too pissed about it”

They’re making the excuse that car sales are down, so they expect sales of their own devices will go down as well. Not sure I buy that logic - wonder how much correlation there has been historically between automotive sales volumes and their revenues.

I would imagine the type of person who would buy one of these would do so independent of whether or not they’re buying a new car - in fact, if anything I’d be less likely to install one on a brand spanking new car with a bumper to bumper warranty - because I wouldn’t be walking in to that purchase expecting the damn thing to break down anytime soon.

It’s more the jalops and owners of older unreliable cars I’d expect to use this so they have visibility to how their car is doing and early warnings on any potential problems as the computer picks them up.

Maybe the adapter is just an ELM327 and can be repurposed for Torque or something.

Perhaps. Mine died years ago, but I imagine someone out there has already taken theirs apart to consider ways to use it.

The only subreddit I found was pretty dead.
