We actually have single track parks in Kansas. They’re decent. Hit up the local one last night for the first serious MTB ride I’ve been on since I was in high school. Finally getting a feel for this bike; having a bike light enough to bunny hop over most obstacles is incredibly freeing, and I’m finally getting comfortable enough on it to really dig into turns and whip it around.
When I got my bike it had these things on it. Clip-in pedals with platforms attached so you can use them without special shoes. Problem is the pedal loves to rotate around as soon as you take your foot off of it and become completely unusable until you futz around getting it rotated properly.
$20 amazon alu pedals and I’m good 2 go.
For a free park, it’s pretty decent. Well maintained, the west loop is pretty easy stuff with mild elevation, the north loop is really easy but you feel like a hero because the trail drops off 8 feet immediately to your right, and the east loop makes you wonder where your Red Bull sponsorship is as you go up steep rocky inclines and over logs and such.
I might make a youtube video on it. Unsure. Need to get gopro mounts for my helmet and whatnot.

Hahaha. Speaking of Red Bull sponsorship, these are the shoes I bike in (please ignore the dog hair)

The pedal toe flip was a standard maneuver that every cyclist had to learn before clipless pedals became popular. I have clipless pedals, but I rarely use them any more. It’s nearly impossible to find cycling shoes that are wide enough to be comfortable on my extra-wide feet. The last pair I bought were the widest available on the market and are tolerable for about an hour. Now I mostly use toe clips on bear traps.

those trails look pretty cool. I use these plastic toe clips when I ride. they came with nylon straps but I took those off. I want to be able to jump off easily and not get stuck. My friend had full clip in shoes and ate shit a few times just cuz he couldn’ t get his foot out and down to catch himself.

Fully expected SPD sandals to make an appearance there.

I’ve heard that SPD sandals are a thing, but I can’t stand wearing sandals, so they’ll never make an appearance on my feet! :D
