I have a truck, I’m not planning to get rid of it. But who doesn’t like to like at diesel trucks?
These trucks are so low mileage, they basically count as old new stock. I kinda want em.
This one has 10,000 miles on it. It looks brand new. Needs a few grand for bulletproofing, it would be a great truck and
I’d rather have this than a new F150 at that price.
. And DAT YELLOW.

Seven years older, 2 7000 more miles on it, and $5k more expensive. But holy shit, when’s the last time you saw a basically new 7.3?!

When I think “diesel trucks” I’m thinking one of these.

I’m wondering if that Seattle truck listed on San Diego’s CL will even pass CA emissions? Do they bring that much 15 years old?

Given I don’t have any major towing/hauling needs, and given the high prices they are asking for the se , I’d rather have a new Ford/RAM pickup with the base V6.
Won’t have the same tow rating, but even a new base model has way more capability than I’ll ever need. And the fuel costs are likely to be LOWER on a new truck with the base gas V6.
I wouldn’t pay anywhere near the asking prices of these old trucks.

We’re looking to buy a fifth wheel some day, so yeah, different demographic.

When they’re practically brand new, sure. Those are a bit overpriced, perhaps deemed collector’s items. But I can see the yellow 6.0 fetching $25k easy.
Washington adopted CA emissions standards in 2005, so that’s not an issue.

Thanks. I literally had no idea.
I’ve kinda got “diesel lust” at the moment, since I’m wishing my Extended 1T tow rig had been bought with a Duramax-- it’s a couple of model years too early for an LLY. So, I’m idly looking at other diesel alternatives.

Even if I personally needed to tow a 5th wheel trailer, I still think I wouldn’t get one of these old diesels unless the asking price was chopped by at least $15,000.
A new one is about twice the asking price, but is SO much better in every way, plus includes a warranty.
Or get a much newer F250/F350 SD with the 6.2L gas engine for the same money like this one
or this one
And most likely it would be a break-even on the fuel cost.

A RWD gasser? Yeah, I’ll pass.

Why? If your need is to tow, the RWD models actually have a higher tow capacity.
And the 6.2L gasser in question is no slouch in terms of torque... and has way more power and has a better automatic transmission.

The additional towing capacity of a RWD version isn’t really significant enough to matter. A few hundred pounds. RWD is good for fleet trucks and that’s it IMO. I will never own a truck that doesn’t have 4WD. You don’t need all the time, but when you need it you’ll sure with you had it.
I’m not disagreeing that the price of those old trucks is high, but I can see someone paying a premium for them. Both engines have their cult followings. I would prefer a Cummins engine in a Ford F350 body, and I plan to do just that build some day. With an Allison 6-speed in there.
Gas vs diesel ultimately comes down to preference but putting it plain and simply, when I’m looking at trucks, I want diesel. I live in SoCal and will be moving to PNW, but I grew up in the south. I love how diesels sound, I love the smell of the fuel, and I love the turbo spool and the big shove of torque. That’s all the justification I need.
