My wife would love that. She goes for stouts and porters and especially loves the ones with coffee and chocolate overtones.

be careful, milkshakes can bring all the boys to the yard, and in this era of social distancing that is undesirable

This is one of my go to drinks from Brewdog, especially when we ate there (I live near the Columbis brewery. Food is outstanding there). It is definitely not overly strong, but sometimes I don't want anything particularly potent.

Sounds like she and I would be great beer buddies. I love dark beer but most of my friends don’t go for that stuff.

She and her dad both prefer darker styles. I go for hoppier styles, preferably with a citrus note, but can definitely go for some stout on occasion.

It’s hard to get Brewdog stuff out here. They've made some wonderfully weird stuff. Last time I had one of this it was Sink the Bismarck.

I do enjoy beers with a noticeable citrus taste but hoppy ones are hit or miss mainly because the glut of IPAs that became available after craft beer became popular had shown me that there are a lot of unpleasant, overly hopped beers out there. The plus side is that the alcohol content tends to be so high that you stop noticing the bad taste pretty quickly...

It’s not like a double imperial stout is lacking in alcohol! Here in the PNW they did go way overboard with the hops for a while but I think these days cooler heads are starting to prevail. They are balancing the hops better and mixing different varieties of hops. Still, a bitter beer for a bitter man.

Oh yeah I haven’t had a strong stout like that in a while, I forgot about those! You’re right in that craft breweries in general are more mindful of balancing flavours instead of just bombarding with hops now.

That said, I’m not a hugely picky person, if someone offers me a beer I’m gonna take it; it’s only when I have to spend my own money on it that I become a bit more picky.

Looks tasty. Think I might open a oatmeal stout later.
